Charlestown announces
upcoming holiday schedule

    The offices of the City of Charlestown will be closed on Friday, December 22 and Monday, December 25 in observance of Christmas. City offices will reopen on Tuesday, December 26 for regular business.
   
Regular sanitation routes that would be normally picked up on Monday, December 25 will be collected on Tuesday, December 26.
   
The offices of the City of Charlestown will also be closed on Monday, January 1 in observance of New Year’s. City offices will reopen on Tuesday, January 2 for regular business.

Sellersburg Town Court
announces Adopt a Doll Program

    Judge Tom Lowe will be holding adoption ceremonies for any child who would like to adopt their doll. The adoption ceremonies will take place on Saturday, December 30 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. in the Sellersburg Town Court.
   
Children should bring their dolls and provide staff with the name of their doll. The child will then appear before Judge Lowe and promise to be a good and loving parent. Each child will receive an "official" Adoption Order and Adoption Certificate.
   
"It is fun for the children and Christmas is the perfect time for this type of program," said Judge Lowe.


Mainstream Transportation
coming to Charlestown

     Officials with the City of Charlestown are pleased to announce that they are making way for Mainstream Transportation Authority, a locally owned transportation company, to locate a portion of its operation to Charlestown.
   
Mainstream is a public transportation authority that will provide non-emergency medical, private pay and contract services to local residents and businesses of Charlestown.
   
Services are slated to start January 1, 2007.

Traffic stop results in
seizure of drugs, gun and $55,000 cash

    A traffic stop on I-65 near Sellersburg resulted in the seizure of just less than a pound of marijuana, a small amount of cocaine, a handgun and just over $55,000 in cash.
   Trooper Phil D’Angelo stopped a white 2007 Dodge Charger traveling southbound on I-65 near Sellersburg just after 10:30 p.m. for speeding. Upon approaching the vehicle he could smell a very strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle.
   The vehicle and occupants were brought to the Indiana State Police Post in Sellersburg where a K-9 unit from the Sellersburg Police Department assisted in the search of the vehicle. Located in the passenger compartment of the rental vehicle was a bag containing just less than a pound of marijuana. A semi-automatic handgun was located in the trunk along with a bag containing just over $55,000 cash.
   Clyde Childress Jr., 33, of Antioch, TN and Annetta Legardye, 22, of Flint, MI were both taken into custody.
   Childress was charged with Possession of Cocaine under 3 grams, a Class D Felony, and possession of a handgun without a permit, a Class A Misdemeanor.
   Legardye was charged with possession of marijuana over 30 grams.
   The subjects admitted they were in route to a location outside of Indiana to purchase drugs for a third party but would not provide any further information.
   At the time of this release, both subjects were incarcerated at the Clark County Jail awaiting their first court appearance. No bond had been set at the time of this release.
   Sellersburg K-9 Officer Matt Crump assisted in the investigation.
