Clark County FSA
Committee warns
farmers of upcoming letter

The Clark County FSA Committee wants to warn the local farmers of a letter being sent by Robert Backus regarding the decision of the FSA office.
The letter, which farmers should receive later this week, explains the Secretary of Agriculture’s decision to combine the Clark County FSA Office with the Scott County FSA Office resulting in all Clark County farm records being transferred to Scott County.
The letter goes on to explain to farmers they may choose any County Office as an alternative to Clark County. Other offices include: Jefferson County FSA Office, Harrison/Floyd/Crawford FSA Office and the Washington County FSA Office.
According to Jeannine Wiley, Vice Chairperson of the Clark County FSA Committee, the Clark County FSA Office will be closed on March 16. The last day of business will be March 15.
"We just want the producers to have a heads up," Wiley stated. "The County Committee is still fighting to the bitter end. We’re not giving up. Dan Moore, the attorney, is still pursuing the different avenues to try to keep the office open."
Any area farmer with questions or concerns may contact the committee members: Wiley, Tom King or Jim Books.

Victim turns
table on would be robber

Last Wednesday, December 12, at approximately 6:38 p.m., an unsuspecting female walked out of a store located in a strip mall in New Albany going to her car. The female opened her car door, got in and shut the door. After she shut the door, Earl McCormick, 38, of Madison, reportedly opened the car door back up and allegedly attempted to rob her of her purse. The female became scared but did exactly as she was supposed to do in a situation such as this. She began screaming and yelling for help. This screaming and yelling startled the alleged would be robber and he fled from her car. The female victim watched him get into his car (a white 1989 Oldsmobile Tornado) and leave the area on Charlestown Road. The female victim followed Earl McCormick and got a vehicle description and license plate number. She did this while speaking to Indiana State Police Dispatch on 911.
At the intersection of State Road 62 and Bethany Road just east of Jeffersonville troopers were able to make a traffic stop on Earl McCormick. He was transported to the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg and after questing about the incident he was placed under arrest for Attempted Robbery, a Class C Felony. He was incarcerated in the Floyd County Jail awaiting his first course appearance.
Detective Jamey Noel at the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg is asking for anyone who feels as though Earl McCormick has committed a similar crime on them to contact him at the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg at 246-2509.
