The first event was a fish fry scheduled to be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
"It was advertised from 11 to 6 but 20 minutes after 10 the phone started ringing for delivery orders," stated Mike Perry, Crusade Committee member.
The department served some 280 fish dinners to raise $1,400 for the Crusade for Children. Hungry citizens traveling to Station 1 could choose from a fish dinner or a brat dinner.
Perry was pleased with the outcome of the department’s first fish fry in some 10 years.
"It went real well. This was the first one we had, had in about 10 years," Perry said. "It went better than we expected."
The members, cadets and members of the Ladies Auxiliary had a long day as they began serving at 10:30 a.m. and ended at 7:30 p.m.
Approximately 20 members including cadets helped make the event a success.
"I want to thank all of the members who showed up and helped make it a success," Perry said. "I also want to thank the community for their support and the Southern Indiana Youth Boosters."
The next event scheduled for the members of the Charlestown Volunteer Fire Department will be the hog roast. The hog roast will be held on Saturday, October 21 and proceeds from that event will also go to the Crusade for Children.

care and diagnostic imaging in Sellersburg

Clark Memorial Hospital is expanding its services to the community by opening an urgent care center and diagnostic center in Sellersburg. The facility will be located off of Highway 60 in Hunter Station and opened on Monday, September 18.
"The hospital is excited to be branching out into this growing area of the community," said Martin Padgett, president and CEO of Clark Memorial Hospital. "Families in this area will benefit from the convenient, professional medical care that will be offered at this facility."Clark Memorial Hospital will be leasing space in the building from Drs. Michael Harper, David White and Michael Moskal, whose offices will be located on the second floor. Drs. Harper and White own Sellersburg Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. Dr. Moskal owns Shoulder and Elbow Center. Both practices are currently seeing patients in the new building.
The Diagnostic Center will offer the latest in x-ray and diagnostic screening including a 64-slice Computerized Tomography (CT) scan, Cardiac CT, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Cardiac MR, mammography with soft touch features, 4-dimensional ultrasound, as well as x-ray capability common in most healthcare facilities.
"The Diagnostic Center will allow for more convenient and flexible appointment scheduling," said Padgett. "Patients will not have to wait for emergency cases that sometimes hinder the process at the main hospital."
Clark Memorial will work with Radiology Associates to expedite the reading of x-rays at the Sellersburg location. Hours of service will start out from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with room for growth and expanded hours depending on patient needs.
The Urgent Care Center will provide acute care to patients who can’t get into see their primary care physician or those who need care that doesn’t require an emergency room visit.
"Our decision to place an Urgent Care Center in Sellersburg was reaffirmed by Solucient, a leading health care marketing advisor. The conclusion made by Solucient indicated that 58 percent of patients visiting an emergency room or 62 million people nation-wide, could have been treated in less-acute care settings such as an urgent care center. This will be a great service to our community and answer their needs," Padgett stated.
Emergency Medicine Physicians Associates (EMPA) will staff the high acuity care center. It will have four exam rooms, two holding rooms, and one procedure room. For patient convenience, it will be open from 1 to 11 p.m., seven days a week.
   Location

The building is located west of I-65 off Highway 60 in Sellersburg. The area known as Hunter Station has been growing for the past 10 years.
