CVFD announces
Crusade Kick-Off events

by JANNA ROSS
Managing Editor
Green Banner Publications

The Charlestown Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) recently wrapped up the WHAS Crusade for Children. Volunteers with the fire department are already busy planning events for next year’s Crusade.
The CVFD has organized the Crusade Committee for next year including Mike Perry, Charlie Moon, Stephanie Cook, Lee Slaughter, Gary Woods and Kyle Lorie.
The committee has met three times already to begin plans for the Crusade.
The committee along with the members of the CVFD is proud to announce the upcoming fundraisers which will all benefit the Crusade for Children.
The first, will be a dance. The dance will be held on Saturday, August 19 at the Charlestown V.F.W. Post #1427 located at 350 Harrison Street in Charlestown. The dance will be held from 9 p.m. to close. The cost of the benefit dance will be $10 per person or $15 per couple. The Designated Driver will be served free soft drinks.
Also offered at the dance will be a 50/50 pot.
A fish fry will be held on Saturday, September 16 at CVFD Station 1 located on Park Street in Charlestown. The fish fry will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Free delivery will be offered to all local businesses. The cost of the fish fry will be determined at a later date.
The next planned event will be a Hog Roast, also to be held at CVFD Station 1. The benefit hog roast will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. while the cost will also be determined at a later date.
The final fundraiser for the WHAS Crusade for Children that has been finalized so far will be a Chili Supper on Saturday, November 4. The Chili Supper will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be a free will donation.
During the Fish Fry, Hog Roast and Chili Supper the committee plans to have door prizes.
"We are putting a whole lot of time and effort into this. We would really appreciate the community support," stated Moon.
He added, "A lot of these events are being held at the fire house. We are working on having better community relations."
Perry agreed with Moon. "When I started, it will be 20 years tomorrow (August 5), the state started changing requirements, within three years you had to maintain certification. Now you have to do so much before you can even put on a fire coat," Perry stated. "We got out of the community. Now we’re trying to get our community relations built back up a little bit."
A percentage of the money collected in Clark County for the Crusade for Children comes back to the county according to Moon and Perry.
For more information about the upcoming fundraisers to benefit the Crusade for Children contact Moon at 379-0951.
