Clark County Sheriff
Rodden warns motorists
of construction on Highway 62

Motorists traveling along Highway 62 between Charlestown and New Washington have been battling construction zones.
According to Clark County Sheriff Danny Rodden the construction will continue through the summer as the intersections are improved in that area.
"We have upped the patrol in that area," Rodden stated. "Motorists need to be aware of the construction zones in the area and throughout the county. They should slow down and pay close attention when traveling through construction zones."
He added, "We have tried our best to detour the semi-trucks traveling in the area. Some are getting onto Tunnel Mill Road and are having some problems where they cannot turn around. Motorists also need to be aware in that area of the few semi-trucks that slip past and get onto Tunnel Mill."
Rodden concluded wanting to make the children aware of the excessive vehicles on secondary roads.
"I want the children who are outside playing to also be aware of the extra traffic on the secondary roads. They need to be made aware of the extra traffic so they can be more careful. I urge parents to talk to their children about the excessive traffic on their roads."

A Clark County Sheriff’s Office Deputy is in critical but stable condition at University of Louisville Hospital after being shot late Monday night.
Clark County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a domestic situation on Highway 62 near Tunnel Mill Road near New Washington a few minutes after 11 p.m. Monday night. Upon arriving at the scene an officer was fired upon around 11:30 p.m.
"The perpetrator was waiting in the woods and fired upon our officer as soon as he stepped out of the car with no warning. One of our officers then fired back in order to give the injured officer cover. Officers also pulled him to safety," Clark County Sheriff Danny Rodden stated.
The injured officer, Marc Meyer, then was taken to the New Washington Volunteer Fire Department where he was triaged before being taken via Stat Flight to U of L Hospital.
Meyer was taken into surgery after arriving at the hospital and has also undergone a tracheotomy.
According to Rodden, the suspect, Douglas Frakes, Jr., 33, was found dead in a field from an apparent self-inflicted gun shot wound to the facial area.
Rodden concluded thanking all agencies involved in the incident Monday night, into the early morning hours of Tuesday.
"I just want to thank all the different agencies who helped out. We are so blessed that everything went the way it did. I truly want to thank each of the agencies for their quick response," Rodden concluded.
Other details of the incident are not being released due to the ongoing investigation by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and the Indiana State Police.
