New Washington Elementary 
to host Mustang Madness Festival

    The New Washington Elementary School’s P.T.O.’s annual Spring Festival will be held on Saturday, March 15 starting at 3:30 p.m. at New Washington Elementary School. 
    There will be carnival style games, booster items and silent auctions from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. 
    Live auction baskets and a variety of other auction items will begin at 7 p.m.
   
In the lobby area, there will be Clark County Cattlemen’s Association ribeye steak sandwiches, sides, hot dogs, chips, nachos and cheese and more served for everyone to enjoy. Kratz Sporting Goods will have a booth with athletic shoes.
   
The public is invited to enjoy a fun filled evening out with family and friends. 
    The event will be held rain or shine.


Truck driver robbed at
gun point at rest area in Clark County

     On Sunday, February 24 at approximately 5:30 a.m., the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg received a report from a truck driver at the southbound I-65 rest park in Clark County that he was robbed at gun point.
    The driver was driving for a freight company from the Indianapolis area and was parked at the rest park walking around his semi tractor and trailer. As he walked to the rear of his semi tractor and trailer two black males confronted him asking for assistance. They stated their vehicle was out of gas.
    Before the victim got a chance to respond one of the males displayed a black handgun demanding money. After the encounter the two alleged suspects left the area. It is unknown what type of vehicle they were traveling in.
    The victim described the two black males as approximately 6' tall with a medium build. Both men were wearing dark hooded sweatshirts and blue jeans. No vehicle description was obtained.
    Anyone with information regrading this case should contact Indiana State Police Trooper Matt Marshall of the ISP Post at Sellersburg at 812-246-5424.
    Kentuckiana Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible for this crime.

Henryville Medical Center
screenings, facility tours set

    Staff of the Clark Memorial Hospital Medical Center/Henryville is celebrating the opening of its new offices this Saturday, March 1.
    Health screenings and tours of the new medical building will also be offered this Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m.
    Screenings will include blood pressure checks and information on osteoporosis, weight loss, nutrition and other health related topics. Bags will be given away with prizes for children and adults.
    Attendees will also have a chance to tour the new 6,100 square-foot space, which includes ten exam rooms, one procedure room, an onsite lab and x-ray facility.
    Health care providers Dr. Kristen Ingram and nurse practitioner Lois Burnett and their team will be on hand to answer questions about their practice. The office specializes in family health care, offering care for patients from birth to geriatric.
    "We're very excited about our new medical facility," Dr. Ingram said. "Our patients will have a brighter, more luxurious care center, with better equipment and more parking. We have always delivered the very best care. Now it will be in the very best environment."
    Added Burnett, "We will have more privacy for our patients and newer equipment. We will also have a more comfortable waiting area, with space designated for children designed with kid-friendly atmosphere and activities."
    The new clinic is located on U.S. Highway 31 South in Henryville.


Psi Iota Xi Sorority
distributes Philanthropic Funds

     Psi Iota xi is a philanthropic sorority that is dedicated to promoting art, literature and music and aiding in the field of speech and hearing. The Alpha Theta Chapter in Charlestown has been active since 1923 and has contributed thousands of dollars to local charities and community groups. It raises money through the sale of flowers (geraniums, mums and poinsettias) and cheese balls. All philanthropic funds raised during the year are disbursed to organizations in the community advocating one of its charitable interest or other worthy projects.
   In an effort to consider causes from any aspects of the community, they have developed an application process. Groups or charitable organizations that have a project that might benefit from Psi Ote funds, are invited to complete an application for submission.
   The following organizations received the 2007 Philanthropic Funds: Charlestown Public Library, Charlestown High Media, New Washington Jr/Sr High School Media, Pleasant Ridge Elementary Media, Jonathan Jennings Elementary Media and Greater Clark County Schools English as a Second Language in Charlestown, Charlestown High/Middle Choral, Charlestown High Band, Destination Imagination, Jonathan Jennings Speech, Pleasant Ridge Speech, Charlestown Civic Center, Charlestown Beautification Light Pole Project and Rose Island Playhouse. Total funds distributed this year were $2,475. Psi Otes also gave two scholarships last year to graduating seniors: Meredith Hall and Lindsey Davis.
