Several individuals who have planned to run in either local Democrat or Republican primary elections this May filed during the first three days candidates’ papers were accepted at the Clerk’s office.

January 10 was the first day anyone could file for an office in Indiana.

Democrat candidates who have filed include:

Sheriff: Jerry D. Goodin and Steven T. Herald.

County Council, District 1: Donnie Richie.

County Council, District 2: Albert “Ab” Watts.

County Council, District 3: Jim Boswell.

County Auditor: Tammy Stout Johnson.

Finley Twp. Advisory Board: Shawn Hurt.

Jennings Township Trustee: Virgil Johnson.

Jennings Twp. Advisory Board: Mahala “Haley” Baker.

Lexington Twp. Trustee: Danny Basham.

Vienna Twp. Trustee: Marsha Miller Smith.

Finley Precinct 1 Committeeman: Shawn Hurt.

Jennings Precinct 2 Committeeman: Joe Smith.

Lexington Precinct 1 Committeeman: Guy M. Townsend.

Vienna Precinct 6 Committeeman: Dennis Wilson.

State Democrat Convention delegates (9 seats): Guy M. Townsend.

State Democrats filing for office on the first day included incumbent U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly.

Local Republicans who filed were:

Sheriff: Shawn S. Mayer.

County Council, District 1: Justin T. Cheatham.

County Council, District 3: Jeremy W. McDaniel.

County Council, District 4: Christopher D. Albertson.

Commissioner, District 3: John English, Gregory “Greg” Prince.

County Assessor: Diana Cozart.

Finley Twp. Advisory Board: Jim Cozart.

Lexington Twp. Advisory Board:  Aaron Bressler.

Vienna Twp. Advisory Board: Scott A. Zellers.

State Republican Convention delegate (7 seats): Christopher D. Albertson.

State Republican candidates who filed included:

District 66 State Representative: Joseph Van Wye Sr.

State Senator, District 45: Chris Garten.

U.S. Senator: Mike Braun, Mark A. Hurt and Allen L. “Luke” Messer.

Persons interested in filing for local offices may visit the Clerk’s Office from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday at the Courthouse in downtown Scottsburg.

Filing will end at 12 noon on Friday, February 9.
