The public is invited to attend an open house at the new headquarters of the Austin Police Department starting at 12 noon on Saturday, January 31.

Officers have worked hard to prepare the building, formerly known as the Austin Senior Center, into a modern, well-kept facility. The building faces U.S. Highway 31 North at its corner with Wilbur Avenue.

City of Austin officials determined that the building could best be used for the police department after it was announced last year that LifeSpan Resources Inc., the organization which operated the Austin Senior Center, was withdrawing its services.

LifeSpan continues to deliver weekday meals to Austin area senior citizens who have signed up for that program.

With a $25,000 grant from the Austin Redevelopment Commission, the center was renovated to accommodate police officers. Funds also purchased new computers and other equipment for the department.

On January 31, the public will get its first look at the facility.
