Earl Hawkins will be pleading guilty to a Class A felony charge of child molesting in Scott Circuit Court on Tuesday, December 2.

Hawkins, 43, was arrested last May on multiple charges after it was revealed that he had impregnated his 13-year-old stepdaughter.

The girl has since given birth to a healthy child.

The suspect eluded arrest for a couple of days after he slipped away from his Belleview Avenue home during a stand-off with police and Indiana State troopers last May 22.

Scottsburg officers went to the house after they were notified by dispatchers that Hawkins was at the home and was possibly suicidal or homicidal after an argument with his wife revealed the young teen’s condition.

Hawkins was arrested on May 24 without incident in another part of the city.

In an interview by a staff member of the Department of Child Services, the stepdaughter said Hawkins had been molesting her since she was seven years old.

Since his arrest, Hawkins has been in jail, awaiting trial on charges of child molesting. With his court-appointed public defender, Hawkins negotiated a plea agreement, allowing him to plead guilty to one of the charges.

Court documents indicate that Hawkins will receive a sentence of 50 years with 150 days as credit for time served. He will also be designated as a sex offender.
