Crusade Dessert Auction Print

Ask almost any member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 42 at Floyds Knobs how the response has been for the Dessert Auction and you will hear “incredible”, “fantastic”, or “phenomenal”.  Committee member Connie Heeke was bubbling over as she listed some of the area merchants she has contacted who plan to donate: Blessings Café at Galena, Dairy Queen at Highlander Point, the Kroger store at Jeffersonville, and Walmart at Clarksville.  Ann Carr concurred, adding First Savings Bank – Floyds Knobs, and Autumn Woods as merchant donors as well as attendees who will be bidding on the desserts.  “I know there are many individuals who are baking,” Ann added, “We anticipate over 50 items on this auction and many of these will be things that you won’t find anywhere else.  Some of the best cooks in the country are right here in our backyard!!”
Merchants or individuals who want to support this event but prefer to give a cash donation may do so.  Checks should be made payable to American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 42 and sent to Ann Carr, Unit President, 4530 Paoli Pike, Floyds Knobs, IN  47119.
Check-in for baked entries will be Saturday, February 11, beginning at 12:30pm and all those unique containers and decorated boxes will be on display for potential bidders to choose their favorites.  The auction will begin at 2:00 and cash prizes will be offered for the top 3 places - - $50,1st; $35, 2nd; and $15, 3rd - - based on the highest winning bids.
Participants will be asked to complete an entry form in advance, listing all of the ingredients, to help avoid any issues with allergies.  They will also include a short description of the item that will be read by the auctioneer.  There will be two categories - - one for celebrities, merchants and commercial bakers; and one for the community at large.  Entry forms are available at the Post or from a committee member.
If you have questions, you can catch Ann Carr and the rest of the Auxiliary members at the Friday night Fish Fry at the Post, serving from 5:00 – 7:00pm.  Or, you can give her a call at 923-9863.  “Until Easter Sunday, we will have a fish fry every Friday night”, said Marilyn Million, kitchen coordinator.  “And, our menu isn’t limited to just the hand-breaded Icelandic Cod that everyone loves.  We also have chicken tenders, popcorn shrimp, fantail shrimp, and oysters, served with sides of baked potato, french fries, slaw, onion rings or hushpuppies.”
