Floyd Central Theatre to add Additional Performance of “Seussical, the musical!” Print

Due to the cancellation of last Friday’s performance of “Seussical” by the Floyd Central Theatre Department, an additional performance has been added for the coming weekend.  Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, March 9th and 10th with performances on Sunday, March 11th at both 2:00 and 7:00 p.m.  It should be noted that the added Sunday night performance starts a half hour earlier than normal evening performances.
The show has received rave reviews and brings all the familiar Dr. Seuss characters to life through songs, colorful set and costuming.  While most associate the Dr. Seuss with children’s books, the musical certainly entertains audience members of all ages while teaching some very valuable lessons.
Sporting a large cast of talented actors and musicians,  the show also challenges the technical crew who operate a large number of effects including a blacklight segment highlighted during the “McElligot’s Pool” number.  Chris Bundy, Director of Theatre Arts at Floyd Central, commented....”While the audience enjoy watching the finished product, I hope they consider the hard work that the technical theatre students put into a  production.  Their work begins weeks before the actors actually start working on a production.  With sets to build, lights to hang, sound design to map out, fly crews to coordinate the various painted drops and scenery that must fly in as well as a myriad of other technical details, they often just don’t get the recognition they deserve. I’m extremely proud of these kids and the difficult schedule they’ve maintained with a ten show schedule this school year.”
With the event of such large crowds being in attendance, the theatre department has also been inviting the audience to contribute to a fund being collected which will be sent to the local chapter of the Red Cross which is assisting during the recovery of the recent tornado outbreak.  Bundy commented, “We have been extremely pleased with the generosity of our audiences during this time of need.  Their contributions combined with a donation from the theatre department and Star Boosters organization with be heartfelt as our thoughts are with the victims of the recent tragic storms.”
Tickets for the show may be reserved by calling the 24-hour box office line at (812) 542-2284.  Tickets are $12 for adults; $10 for senior citizens and $6 for students.  A limited number of V.I.P. upgraded tickets are available for an additional $6 per ticket which include best available seating and an upscale intermission lounge with food and drink.
