?    On Wednesday, November 19 at 7 p.m. in the Harrison County Community Foundation Conference Room, the HCCF staff will conduct a HCCF grant writing workshop. Significant changes have been made to grant policies and any agency intending to apply in the Spring grant cycle is encouraged to send one representative.     Applications for the Spring grant cycle will be accepted after December 1 and must be delivered to the HCCF staff by 5 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, or they may be postmarked by that date. Grants should be announced in mid-March. Applications and policies will be distributed at the workshop and will also be available after November 1 on the HCCF website, www.hccfindiana.org.

?    Shirley Nolot, Clark County Treasurer, wants to make the taxpayers aware that the bill for the Tax year 2007 pay 2008 taxes will be mailed on November 12, with due dates of December 9, 2008 and February 3, 2009. You will only receive one bill for both installments. Payments received after the due date will be assessed a late payment penalty of 5% for the first 30 days after the due date. A full 10% will be assessed there after.

?Construction project at St. Michael’s in Bradford underway PDF Print E-mail

??    St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Bradford, which is in the northeast corner of Harrison County, has proceeded on a $2.5 million project to upgrade and expand their parish facilities.
    The church held a formal ground breaking ceremony after its 11 a.m. Mass Sunday, November 2, and this last week, workmen used earth moving equipment to start the ground work itself.
    The project will turn the present parish hall, which is across the church, and on the west side of Farmer’s Lane, into a Religious Education Center, and will include an addition to the front of the present building.
    The part of the building that was the parish hall will be all classrooms after the renovation.

?    The new YMCA of Southern Indiana's long-awaited Floyd County Branch will host the public for a grand opening celebration from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at 33 State Street on the river in New Albany.
    All ages will enjoy tours of the state-of-the-art facility that includes a 2,000 sq. ft. lobby/atrium, a three-story climbing wall, double gymnasium, teen/senior center, exercise studios, sauna and steam rooms, aquatic center with three pools, wellness/fitness center, XRKade active game room, childcare space, and other program areas.
    Refreshments will be served, and members of the public will be eligible to win a 32-inch flat-panel television. YMCA memberships will be available at a reduced rate that day and are reciprocal with the Clark County Branch at 4812 Hamburg Pike in Jeffersonville.
    In addition to the YMCA, the facility houses LifeSpan Resources and an office for the Horseshoe Foundation of Floyd County whose generous gift led the donations in the project coordinated by citizen volunteers who helped raise more than $7.3 million from 306 other individuals, businesses, and organizations.

?Lady Eagles’ Black and White Game starts new season for local team PDF Print E-mail

??    Fans of the Austin Lady Eagles got to see the 2008-09 basketball squads in action on Tuesday night, November 11, in the Lady Eagles Gym.
    Varsity, junior varsity and seventh and eighth grade girls’ teams were featured in the scrimmage.
    This year’s Lady Eagles roster includes four seniors, Kristen Coomer, Kayla Hickman, Emily Morris and Courtney Robbins.
    The powerful junior class includes Ashley Dowling, Michelle Goodin, Chelsea Jones, Katy McIntosh and Amanda Reardon.
    Sophomore players are Rachelle Blaylock, Lindsey Davidson, Shantel Gray, Kelly Hollan, Brooke Stollings and Samantha Wooten.
    Freshmen are Mikaela Clark, Jessica Madden, Krystal Napier and Mary Rice.
    Girls’ coaches are Jared Petersen, varsity; Scott Turner, assistant; and Ryan Herald, junior varsity.
    The first home game for the varsity and JV is scheduled this Friday, November 14, against Providence. Two more home games will be played prior to the annual Austin-Scottsburg game on November 26. Those include New Washington on Tuesday, November 18, and Paoli on Friday, November 21. All home games start at 6 p.m.
    The Austin-Scottsburg game on November 26 is hosted by Scottsburg and will also begin at 6 p.m.
