    Charlestown Lady Pirate head coach Tony Hall has announced the student athletes who were recently honored during the Lady Pirate Awards Banquet.
    Varsity
    Assist Award- Amanda Miller (105)
    Rebounding Award- Alicia Zollman (124)
    Free Throw Award- Amanda Miller (84 percent- School Record)
    Most Steals Award- Amanda Miller- (15- School Record)
    Coaches Award- Cara Rhoten
    Susie Harper Mental Attitude Award- Chelsea Johns
    Academic All-State- Anna Trotter
    Over 80 Percent Free Throw Award- Cara Rhoten and Brittany Bennison
    Junior Varsity
    Coaches Award- Tyler Brafford
    Free Throw Award- Jennifer Watson (63 Percent)
    Most Improved Award- Ashley Smother

Lady Pirate alumni experience March Madness PDF Print E-mail

    Lady Pirate basketball alumnus Kelsie Thrasher (2005) and Lindsey Davis (2007) have experienced their fair share of March Madness during their college careers.
    Thrasher, who is a starter at Kentucky Christian University, has now won her third NCCAA National Championship (2007, 2008, 2009) with the Lady Knights. She was recently named Mid-East 2009 Regional Player of the Year, 1st Team NCCAA All-American Team and the 2009 NCCAA All-Tournament Team.
    Davis, who plays for the Kaskaskia College Blue Angels, finished fourth in the NCJAA Division 1 Tournament in Salina, Kansas. The Blue Angels are coming off their best season in history, winning their conference with a record of 16-0 and winning the Region 24 tournament to qualify for the NCJAA Final Four.

Salem's Gunner Irwin named Player of Year in Mid Southern boys' round ball PDF Print E-mail

    Salem senior Gunner Irwin has been named Player of the Year for the just completed 2008-09 season in boys’ basketball.
    His coach, Hank Weedin, has been picked by his peers in the coaching community in the league as the Coach of the Year.
    The rest of the All Mid Southern Conference picks are (in no particular order): Blaze Ayres (Brownstown), Taylor Wischmeier (Brownstown), Brandon Dunaway (Corydon), Robert Baker (Salem), Ben Raichel (Austin), Nick Townsend (Silver Creek), Spencer Robinson (Silver Creek), Chad Brady (Charlestown), and Matt Bridgewater (Scottsburg).

Roast of Dr. Gene and Dr. Jack Hedrick PDF Print E-mail

    The Salem Rotary Club will host a “Roast of Dr. Gene and Dr. Jack Hedrick” on Saturday, May 9 at 6:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Hall.
    The Salem Rotary Club is sponsoring the roast, not only yo honor the Hedrick's but also raise funds for two projects. The proceeds will benefit Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance and the worldwide Polio Eradication Fund project of Rotary International.
    Jack and Gene Hederick are twin brothers who were raised in Salem and come back to invest in their hometown. In 1952 Gene and Jack graduated from Salem High School. Gene was Valedictorian and Jack Salutatorian. Both are Indiana University graduates who engage in the practices of optometry and dentistry in Salem for over fifth years. They have served their community as professionals and donated their time and money to children in the community and in other countries. The Rotary wished to recognize these individuals for their contribution to the community.
    A catered meal will be served. Business or organizations may sponsor a whole table (seating for eight) for $250.00 donation Those business or organizations reserving a whole table will be recognized in the program as well as with a place care with their corporate name at their table. Individuals tickets are $30 each.
    Seating is limited and may be reserved in the order requests are received. Reservations must be received by April 25. For reservations call 883-3150.

John Hay Center holds Spring Fling Open House PDF Print E-mail

    On Saturday, April 4, the John Hay Center will have their Spring Fling Open House. Hours are from 1 to 4 p.m., with no charge to tour the Museum,Village and Depot. The public is invited to come and visit.
