    Governor Mitch Daniels has received word that President George W. Bush has approved Clark, Crawford, Dearborn, Jackson, Knox, Lawrence, Martin, Pike, Spencer, and Switzerland counties for federal assistance for homeowners, renters and businesses damaged by severe weather that began September 12.
    That brings to 16 the number of Indiana counties that have been designated for federal assistance. Lake, LaPorte and Porter counties received approval for federal individual assistance on September 23 and Harrison, Jefferson, and Jennings counties were added to the list on September 26.

    The Friends of Culbertson Mansion, Inc. will be co-sponsoring the 24th Annual “Literally, a Haunted House” Event. The Haunted House is located at 914 East Main Street in New Albany, and will open at 7 p.m. October 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, and 25. Admission is $12 per person. Discount coupons are available at various locations, including the mansion’s Gift Shop. With newly re-designed rooms, the Haunted House is staffed by over 100 volunteers and all proceeds fund the interior restoration of the Culbertson Mansion.
    Scary Storytelling will also be held on the third floor of the mansion on October 17, 18, 23, and 24 at 7:30, 8:30, and 9:30 p.m. Admission is $2 for adults, and $1 for children 12 & under. For more information, please call (812) 944-9600 and visit www.hauntedculbertson.com.
    The Culbertson Mansion State Historic Site is part of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Division of Museums & Historic Sites. The site is located at 914 East Main Street in New Albany. Daily hours of operation for regular tours are Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. Admission for tours is $3.50 for adults, $3 for seniors, $2 for children 12 & under, and children age 3 & under are free.

?Golfers raise nearly $2,300 for United Way Community Care Fund PDF Print E-mail

    Almost $2,300 was raised by 47 golfers during the United Way of Scott County’s sixth annual golf scramble held on Sunday, September 27.
    The funds they raised benefit the Community Care Fund of the United Way, which supports numerous health and human service programs and organizations in Scott County.
    The first place team, which scored 15 under par, was Scott Memorial Hospital’s team of James Vaughn, Tisha Vaughn, Jason Vaughn and Kenny Brown. They took top honors with a combined score of 55. In second place were Tim Edwards, Jim Felix, Jeff West and Eric Meyers, members of the Wal-Mart Distribution Center team. They scored a 58.
    Third place went to last year’s winners, John Newmister, Dick Stark, Darrel Day and Ransum Caldwell, who also scored a 58.

?Floyd County 4H Fairgrounds to hold Costume Carnival PDF Print E-mail

    The Costume Carnival is coming to the Floyd County 4H Fairgrounds on October 31. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the Trick or Treaters. This event is being hosted by the Floyd County 4H Corporation, Inc., a group of 15 volunteers. This is a free event with candy given from local businesses in the community. Thought of as a safer alternative to door to door trick or treating, this event is held indoors.
    Special guest will be Pat Harrison, who founded this event 20 years ago, as the Fairy God Mother.
    Others making appearances will be: Sporty from Sports Clips, Big Boy, Buddy from the Fun House, and Derby Dinner Playhouse will have their own special guest make an appearance. A Class Act will be the DJ’s for the night. A moon bounce will be set up by Parks and Recreation.
    If you are a business, and would like to participate in the Costume Carnival, please call Lisa Duffy at (812) 987-6086. Tables are free, and the business provides candy for the children.
