While observers of the high school sports scene would normally be thinking in terms of baseball, softball, and other spring sports in April, several Green-Banner Publications area athletes participated in the Hoosier Basketball Coaches’ Association (HBCA) Girls’ and Boys’ All Star Games Saturday at Tecumseh High School. In both games, an East Squad played a West Squad. All local GBP area athletes were on the East Squad.
The girls’ team had three representatives from North Harrison on the East squad, Wynn Shroyer, Kayla Lambert, and Kacey Cox.
The boys’ team had three representatives, Gunner Erwin of Salem, Chris Beam of Borden, and Spencer Robinson of Silver Creek.
The East girls’ lost a 73-72 squeaker to the West, but it wasn’t over until the very end. Kacey Cox was fouled on a three point attempt with 4.7 seconds left, but missed the shot. Since she was fouled on a three point attempt, she got three free throw attempts. She proceeded to sink all three of them, but the West refused to turn over the ball on the ensuing possession.
The West boys’ took a wide lead late in the 1st half and kept up the pressure in their 112-100 win over the East boys’ squad.

The new boilers to be installed at Morgan Elementary School during the upcoming renovation and construction project will be propane fired boilers, the North Harrison board of School Trustees decided recently at a special board meeting.
The installation cost of the boilers is estimated at $1.9 million dollars, as opposed to the estimated cost of $1.79 million for electric boilers.
The main difference in the costs involved will be in the yearly fuel consumption, and the cost of each type of fuel by the therm (a therm is a measurement of energy equal to 100,000 BTUs).
The cost of propane per therm is $1.58, based on a cost of $1.45 per gallon of propane.
With electric boilers, the cost per therm is $2.30, with the basis being a price of $0.0784 per kilowatt hour.
The propane boilers would have an output of 26,710 therms per year, with 23,964 therms per year coming from electric boilers.
The total energy cost on a yearly basis for the propane boilers would be $42,202 as opposed to $55,117 for electric.
The propane boilers would have a service life of 25 years, as opposed to 15 years for the electric option.

Indiana State Police, inspectors with the U.S. Postal System and agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation spent several hours at a Scottsburg home last Thursday, April 2, collecting evidence against a man suspected of producing child pornography.
The residence, located on Owen Street, was the scene of activity as troopers, agents and inspectors went through the belongings of Mark William Armstrong, 40, who is now being held in the New Albany Jail.
According to a jail officer, Armstrong has been charged in U.S. District Court, Southern District of Indiana, in New Albany with distribution of child pornography, a Class C felony under Indiana law. Federal charges may be pending.
Initial information from Timothy M. Morrison, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District, was that Armstrong was to be charged with sexual exploitation of children for producing child pornography. No explanation was available on the difference between the initial and final charge.
