This year’s Silver Creek High School junior varsity football team had the perfect start to the season.   With renewed spirit, the Silver Creek Dragons monopolized the game, easily winning over the more seasoned Clarksville Generals 25-2.
Rain was in the forecast, bleachers generously donated by Century Industries, Sellersburg, were being pulled into place just before game time, the concession stand would be yards away from the fans, yet nothing would deter the almighty Dragons and their loyal fans.  Dragon supporters came prepared with chairs, giant umbrellas and an appetite for football and dragon burgers!
Under the direction of head Coach Mike Donahue and Assistant Coach Kevin Brooks and with the added expertise of the specialty coaches, this relatively young Dragon team took control early in the game and never relinquished it.
Mark your calendars for the remaining Dragon games. Schedules for both JV and Silver Creek Middle School can be obtained on the Dragon website: www.scdragonfootball.com or through the schools.

Wednesday, 02 September 2009 00:00
One again, Salem's square will be filled with the sights and sounds of classic, custom and modern cars, trucks and motorcycles. The Waters of Salem is presenting the Second Annual Shop with a Cop Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show on Saturday, October 3. The show will last from Noon to 6 p.m. Registration will be from Noon to 2 p.m., with judging beginning promptly at 1 p.m. The awards ceremony will take place from 5:15 to 6 p.m.
Last year was the first year for this show, devised and coordinated by Christine Motsinger of The Waters of Salem. Last year's show had 94 registered participants and over 150 spectators were in attendance. Through registrations, donations, raffle ticket sales and everyone who supported the event, $1,999 was raised for the Shop with a Cop Program, which helps children in need receive presents for Christmas. This year's event will feature new processes to improve the show and help the event run smoother. All participants after registering will receive a “Ready to Judge” paper to be placed in their windshield to inform the judges of their car being ready to judge. This process will allow a quicker and more effective judging experience. In addition, judges scores will be received periodically throughout the day, and then entered into a computer spreadsheet to automatically tally the scores, allowing trophies to be awarded according to schedule. Trophies this year will include the Best Top 20, 5 specified trophies for motorcycles, Police Pick, Crowd Pleaser, Mayor's Choice, Sponsor's Favorite, Firehouse Favorite, and new this year will be the special Kid's Choice trophy, where kids will receive “Official Judge” stickers and be able to vote for their favorite. In total, over 30 trophies will be handed out.
