Last Friday night the Pirates of Charlestown were pumped and ready for a battle on the grid iron with the visiting Panthers of Corydon Central. Charlestown needed to knock off the undefeated No. 5 in the Coaches Poll and No. 4 in the Media Poll Panthers for a chance of claiming a share of the 2011 Mid Southern Conference title.
Pirates surge in second half to capture 41-28 win at Providence
After an emotional win last Friday night against the then undefeated Panthers of Corydon, the Pirates traveled to Clarksville Friday night for a show down with the Pioneers of Providence. The Pirates took advantage of a Pioneer fumble in the second half to score back-to-back touchdowns. The second half surge pushed Charlestown to a 41-28 win over the homestanding Pioneers. Charlestown improved their overall record to 6-2.
At approximately 1:23 PM on today’sdate, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department received a call from people traveling near the address of 24015 Stipps Hill Road, near Laurel, stating they saw a small child wondering around in the roadway.
Full Replacement Not Needed for Sherman-Minton Bridge
Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Commissioner Michael B. Cline said today the agency has learned enough in its ongoing testing and assessment of the Sherman-Minton Bridge to rule out that a full replacement of the bridge will be needed. INDOT, together with Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials and contractors working on the bridge, expect to complete testing and analysis by early October.
