    The Lady Pirate Basketball team faced the Silver Creek Lady Dragons in the championship round of the 34th Annual Charlestown Girl's Holiday Tournament; the final holiday tourney to be held in Dunn Arena.  
    The Lady Pirates (7?3) trailed the majority of the game until they rallied midway in the fourth to steal this year's crown.
    Critical errors cost the Lady Dragons (6?6) the victory when fouls sent 87% free throw shooter Amanda Miller to the line twice in the final two minutes of play.  
    The Lady Pirates were victorious 36?30, claiming their 15th Holiday Tourney title and the 9th victory over the rival Lady Dragons in the last eleven contests.  
    Amanda Miller was named Tournament MVP while Lady Pirates Laci Williams and Alisha Zollman were named to the All?Tournament Team.

    The Pirate football team whom recently finished another successful season with a final record of 7-3 including going undefeated in the Mid?Southern Conference play for a third consecutive MSC title; had two
players named Class 3A All?State.
    Senior defensive lineman Clay Daniel and junior defensive lineman Jon Slaten have been named to the Indiana Football Coaches Association All?State Team, in their respective classes.

U of L Women's Basketball Team to host public PDF Print E-mail

    The University of Louisville women's basketball team is coming to town!
    Spots for students in the free basketball clinic with the notable U of L team at the YMCA of Southern Indiana's Floyd County Branch in New Albany on Monday, December 28, filled rapidly.
    But the general public will have an opportunity to meet and greet the team members and head coach Jeff Walz afterward that day at Steinert's Grill and Pub, 401 E. Main St., between noon and 1 p.m.
    Individuals and families of all ages may drop by to meet the area athletes and also dine in the grill on their own if they wish. Reservations are not necessary.

    Relay for Life of Harrison County will host its Kick-Off on Tuesday, January 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the Corydon Central High School Cafeteria. Cancer patients, survivors and caregivers can attend to learn more about how the Relay for Life benefits the lifesaving work of the American Cancer Society. Anyone interested in starting a team for their workplace, family, church group or organization can come and find out how to participate. Relay for Life will be held June 11 & 12 at the Corydon High School Track.
    This year Relay for Life of Harrison County will reach $1 million. All teams from the past 14 years are invited to join this year as a legacy team. Fighting cancer means our friends and loved ones have the chance to celebrate more birthdays. We will celebrate these birthdays and work toward a million more at the Relay Kick-off.      
    Refreshments will be served.

Scott County says 'Merry Christmas' by supporting 2009 We Care, helping children PDF Print E-mail

    Though the total was a little lower than what was collected in 2008, people in Scott County and surrounding areas certainly did their best to support the 2009 We Care to the tune of $70,351.50.
    Thanks to the many contributions of items for the annual auction and the efforts of scores of volunteers, We Care will be helping 1,582 children. Funds raised go to buy these youngsters new winter coats, shoes and other clothing. The average spent per child is $44.47.
    Most of the children being helped this year are in Scott School Districts 1 and 2. District 1 has 653 participating, while District 2 has 557.
    Other children receive help as well. There are 285 at Kids Place in Scottsburg that will receive warm clothing, a number that increased this year by 69 because of the need present in the county.
