The North Harrison Middle School 7th grade girls’ basketball team won the Harrison County tourney 42-33 last week at Corydon Junior High School, and 26 points by the Lady Cats’ Jill Book helped to seal the deal.
The Lady Cats were behind 6-4, when Book hit a three pointer, was fouled, and hit the free throw attempt to put her team ahead for good at 8-6.
North led by a slim 10-8 margin at the end of the 1st quarter and it was still a slim 17-13 edge for the Cats at the half time break.
In the second half, the 3rd quarter didn’t exactly do the Lady Cats any favors, as Corydon outscored them 9-8.
The Lady Cats got 10 points from Book in the final period as they pulled away from Corydon. Book had an old fashioned three point play, and hit on a total of 8 of 9 free throws in the 4th. Book hit on a 9 of 12 free throws in the game (75 percent).

For more than 35 years, vegetable growers from Southern Indiana and Northern Kentucky have been coming to Starlight to learn more about modern production of fresh vegetables. Commercial vegetable producers, like any other farmer, face many production and marketing challenges in bringing the world’s highest quality products to the consumer’s kitchen table. Weeds, diseases, insects, and weather uncertainties can all add up to impact the complexity of producing a safe, nutritious, and economical food supply. It can certainly be a challenge for a vegetable grower to keep up-to-date regarding the latest varieties and tools available, along with the occasional regulatory change that they need to comply with.
Growers (including home gardeners) wishing to spend a few hours learning about the latest information in the field of vegetable crop production are encouraged to attend the annual Starlight Vegetable Growers Meeting on Tuesday, February 23, 2010. This annual educational program will begin with registration from 5:45 to 6:15 p.m. There will be an opportunity for participants to visit with commercial exhibitors throughout the evening to keep in touch with the latest pest control options, vegetable varieties, tools, and marketing/packaging products.

For the past three years ranked Orleans has played Borden and come up short. This had to be a concern for Orleans coach Tom Bradley. It didn’t seem to be a concern for his players.
In the first quarter Borden came at Orleans ignoring their current ranking of 4th in single A ball. Brandon Beam and Dalton Wagoner drove to the middle against Orleans 6’6” Center, Cameron Carroll. In three minutes they had forced two fouls on him and he was on the bench.
