Floyd Central’s Emerald guard has great season PDF Print E-mail

Floyd Central Emerald Guard competed in the TriState Circuit (Ohio, Kentucky, & Indiana) Winter Guard Championships on March 31.  They traveled to Ryle High School in Union, KY and competed against 13 other high school winter guard units.  As they “took the floor in championship competition” they were undefeated.  They captured the Championship title in Scholastic Class A-2 for the first time.  In 2010, they received a bronze.  They will now move up to Scholastic Class A.

Civil War comes alive as Morgan’s Raid again rages through Corydon PDF Print E-mail

 

The blast of cannons and the piercing ring of reveille will punctuate the southern Indiana countryside this July, as dozens of soldiers reenact the famous Civil War Battle of Corydon, which originally took place July 9, 1863. The dramatic reenactment will take place July 7-8, 2012.  Events, such as reveille, encampment, demonstrations and military ball are held at Hayswood Nature Reserve, just a short distance from the historic battlefield.   A special reenactment of Morgan’s Raid will gallop into downtown Corydon at high noon, just as they did in 1863 with Confederate soldiers pillaging local shops, homes and buildings. Following the downtown raid reenactment, visit Governor Hendricks’ House, which was home to solider William Porter during the 1863 Battle of Corydon.    While there try authentic Civil War recipes such as, spoon bread and pickled water.

The Washington County Farmers’ Market received it’s first official entry into the 2012  “Largest Tomato” contest co-sponsored by- “Good Earth Master Gardeners of Washington County” & Washington County Farmers’ Market and even though, it is not believed that this record tomato of just over one pound will win the final ‘record’ tomato pay-off of $20.00 per pound for the “Biggest Tomato in Indiana; the grower did receive a “Big Tomato” certificate and a $5.00 Record Setting Market Buck. Pick-up official rules and entry at the market and check out the “Tally board”.

Local Student Selected for National Leadership Position PDF Print E-mail

Michael Baird, West Lafayette, Ind., has been selected as a member of the 2012-2013 Agriculture Future of America (AFA) Student Advisory Team. Baird, along with eight other college students from seven states, serves as an ambassador for the organization and will help to develop the strategic direction for the organization in 2012. Members also help plan and deliver the AFA Leaders Conference.
