Stephanie Padgett flashed a wide grin as her name was called for a door prize during intermission of the “Speaking Louder Than Before Tour” Feb. 12 at Graceland Baptist Church in New Albany.
Padgette's eyes were full of anticipation as “Wally” the host of WAY FM's “Total Access” asked her if she was ready to see what she had won.
She nodded and out-walked her boyfriend of seven months, Shawn Scott.
Scott is a Salem resident who had been planning the surprise engagement for about three months.
He said he initially wanted to do it in front of a room full of women at Northside Christian Church's Christmas Tea event, but didn't want to take the focus off the event.

Heating and Cooling System Rebate Program Launched PDF Print E-mail

Lt. Governor Becky Skillman recently announced the opening of the Indiana Heating and Cooling Incentive Program (IHIP) that will provide rebates for the purchase and installation of Energy Star Rated furnaces, boilers, central air conditioners and heat pumps. The rebates range from $150 to $1,000 depending on the technology that is installed.
“Hoosiers with older, inefficient heating and cooling systems are watching their money literally go out the window,” said Lt. Governor Becky Skillman. “This program will bring the cost of replacing those less efficient systems within reach of more Hoosier homeowners.”
IHIP is the Indiana program that is part of the federal State Energy Efficiency Appliance Rebate Program (SEEARP). Indiana received $6.1 million for the program, which will remain active until the funds are exhausted. This program will compliment the rebate or incentive programs already in place through many of Indiana’s utility companies.
“Replacing an older furnace can be expensive,” said Indiana Office of Energy Development (OED) Director Brandon Seitz. “When the IHIP rebate and any available rebate from a utility are combined with state and federal tax incentives, the final cost of a higher efficiency furnace, boiler, central air or heat pump fits into the budgets of more Hoosiers.”

Scottsburg Warriors preparing for the upcoming sectional tournament PDF Print E-mail

An 8-7 record, and a mediocre regular season will soon be coming to a close for the Warriors, maybe.  With several games on their schedule not played the first time around because of weather issues and five games currently scheduled as make ups or regular games, the Warriors season is far from over just yet.  However, the Warriors are already beginning to settle into the postseason form and prepare for the Sectional tournament.
Out of contention for the MSC title, the Warriors will have a tough test ahead of them if they want to win their first sectional title since 2005.  They will almost certainly have to play one if not two of the sectional favorites in Greensburg and Batesville if they hope to cut down the nets.  However, the Warriors remain optimistic.
We believe we can win it,” said Coach Brent Keck, “in my mind if you’ve got to think you have a shot if you want to have a chance.”

Austin Eagles gearing up for tough boys' 2A Sectional at Paoli PDF Print E-mail

After experiencing an up-and-down season with a decidedly winning season record of 12-5 (as of February 12), the Austin Eagles under Coach Mike Deaton are looking at a tough boys' 2A sectional in Paoli.
Brownstown's Braves are the heavies in this sectional, having compiled a perfect season and ranked no. 1 in 2A teams in the state. Austin is ranked 11th, not bad for the teams the boys have faced this season.
“We've got a very competitive sectional ahead of us. Eastern's playing well, and Providence played New Albany well recently. In fact, you look at all of the teams in this sectional and they're all pretty equal with Brownstown maybe a step or two ahead,” advised Coach Deaton.
The teams in this sectional include Paoli, Austin, Eastern, Clarksville, Providence, Brownstown and West Washington. The boys' draw took place on Sunday, February 21.

Charlestown girls win sectional title contest over Crawford Co., 47-43 PDF Print E-mail

The talk before the finals of the Class AAA Sectional 30 finals last Tuesday (Feb. 16) was that if Charlestown gets to the free throw line they would probably win. They have done well from the free throw line all year, and have continued to do well in the sectional tournament.
Alicia Zollman was at the line with 7.1 seconds left in the game and het Lady Pirates clinging to a slim 45-43 lead. The senior calmly sank both free throws and gave the team their final 47-43 margin of victory.
“That was clutch,” said Charlestown coach Tony Hall of the Zollman free throws.
Crawford County’s Chelsea Jellison had just gotten her Lady Pack to within 45-42 when she swished a three with 11.2 left. Both teams took separate time outs immediately after the Jellison three, setting up the finals free throws by Zollman.
