Borden Junior/Senior High School Principal Lisa Nale was retained for that position last night (Thursday, Aug. 12) during the West Clark School Board's regular meeting.

Nale's future as a West Clark employee was in doubt following an incident on June 24 where witness called police and reported the vehicle she was driving was swerving on Highway 60.

Youth First of Washington County is organizing yard sale to not only raise money for Youth First but to also aid families with the financial burden of purchasing back to school clothing.  The Youth First Yard Sale will be on Saturday, August 28 at the Fabri-Form parking lot on Highway 60 in Pekin from 7 a.m. until noon.  
Youth First will be offering a “Stuff and Save” special on all clothing.

A re-enactment of Morgan’s Raid on historic Beck’s Mill, south of Salem, will take place Saturday, Aug. 14, at 11 a.m.
General John Hunt Morgan and his men, portrayed by the 9th Kentucky Cavalry, plan to visit the restored mill, much as they did July 10, 1863.

Enjoying the dog days of summer sitting by the swimming pool and having a bar-b-q, nothing gets much better than that. It takes chemicals to keep your pool nice and refreshing all summer long. When your summer enjoyment is over and it is time to get the pool ready for the off season remember that those same chemical can wreak havoc on our environment. Prior to closing your pool you have to make sure that your water is chemically balanced.  To do that you have to sometimes add chlorine, antifreeze, and or dry acid before you can close your pool down. Are you one of the people that just run a hose to the nearest storm drain? Do you release that pool water over a period of time or all within an hour or so? The Floyd County and New Albany Stormwater Department would like to share some helpful tips that you can apply this fall when you are getting ready to shut the pool down for the season.

Alexander Gilstrap to be Ambassador of WC March of Dimes PDF Print E-mail

This year’s ambassador is Alexander “Lex” Gilstrap, son of Nathan and Sarah Gilstrap of Pekin. Lex was born 13 weeks premature on June 1, 2009. He weighed only one pound and nine ounces. He spent the first four months of his life in intensive care being treated for numerous medical problems. Today, at a year old, Lex is still small but he’s strong and doing well.
