A local woman has been given a great opportunity for a year long journey that will allow for both personal and professional growth and development. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity will be a great adventure for Connie Keith, the Executive Director for the Clark County Youth Coalition and the Coordinator for the Floyd County ATOD Task Force. (The two are combined for the Local Coordinating Council, Governor’s Commission for a Drug-Free Indiana).

One Southern Indiana is pleased to announce Cinda Baxter, the founder of the national 3/50 Project movement, will be the keynote speaker at a “Buy Local Southern Indiana” kickoff event on Thursday, March 10th at Kye’s II in Jeffersonville.  In addition to the keynote speech, the event will include registration, networking, hors d’oeuvres, and a cash bar.  The reception will take place from 5:30 to 7:30, with Baxter taking to the podium promptly at 6:00 p.m.

Additional matinee added for Willy Wonka PDF Print E-mail

Floyd Central High School Theatre’s production of the musical  “Willy Wonka!,” based on the classic Gene Wilder film of the same name has proven so popular with audiences that an additional matinee has been added to this coming weekend’s scheduled performances.  The additional matinee will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 12.  Other performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, March 11 and 12, at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, March 13 at 2:00 p.m.

Men’s Lenten Prayer Breakfast 2011 schedule for Lanesville area churches PDF Print E-mail

The Sixteenth Annual Lenten Men’s Prayer Breakfast will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 12th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lanesville. Each event will conclude at 8:00 a.m. The men will be gathering to share spiritual focusing during Lent. There is no need for reservation; a free will offering will be accepted to donate to local needy causes. The men of each respective church will host the events. These series of breakfasts are for men and their son so that they may fellowship with other men seeking a closer relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Each program is planned by the host congregation with the intent to enlighten men as to the presence of God in the world around us. We especially invite any men who are not members of any of the participating churches to join us at one or all of the breakfasts. If you wish further information, please call 952-2800. On Thursday, March 03, 2011 at approximately 11:53 p.m. Deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Department along with the Washington County EMS and Pierce Polk Twp. Fire Department were dispatched to 5365 Elmer Martin Road regarding a single car motor vehicle accident.    Upon arrival Deputies located a White 1991 Isuzu Trooper driven by 19 year old Dylan T. Dizney of 6002 East Isgrigg Place, Pekin, crashed into a tree.
Dizney was killed instantly as a result of head and neck injuries sustained from the crash.
He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Alcohol and speed are believed to be involved as contributing factors.
