Lifespring, the community mental health center serving Clark, Floyd, Jefferson, Washington, Scott, and Harrison counties, regrets to announce that due to a significant decrease in projected revenues for next fiscal year, it will be abolishing approximately 50 staff positions.

Seelye and Gilley will battle to be new sheriff in town PDF Print E-mail

The votes have been counted and most of the general election field has been set in Harrison County.

The most hotley contested race in the county was for sheriff.

Gary Gilley was the runaway winner to represent the Democrats in Novemeber. Gilley collected 60.42 percent of the vote. The closest competitior was Marty D. McClanahan with 16.29 percent of the the vote. Gilley will square-off against Republican winner Rodney Seelye. Seelye won handily over Thomas Bube. Seelye had 65.85 percent of the vote and Bube had 20.51 percent.

Bus Vandalism causes two-hour delay PDF Print E-mail

A call was reported around 6:15 a.m. regarding vandalism at the bus compound of Salem Community Schools.

 

The City Police along with the Washington County Sheriff's Department responded to find 26 buses at the compound had one flat tire each, as the investigation continued it was found that someone had taken the time to not damage anything as they entered the compound. The compound was locked at the time the report was made and there are no security cameras in that area.

On May 7 at approximately 3 p.m. Detective Bill Wibbels from the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg arrested Arnulfo Nolasco-Ortega, a.k.a. “Pato”, 25, of New Salisbury, IN after interviewing him in reference to a child molesting complaint.

It looks like there won’t be a new sheriff in town for Washington County come November. That is as long as the Republican Party doesn’t appoint someone to run against Sheriff Claude Combs.

 

Combs beat opponent Joey Wheeler in the race for the Democratic spot in November’s sheriff election, 1,759 votes to 673 during Tuesday’s Primary Election.
