The members of the Jonathan Jennings Student Council learned how valuable a penny can be.  During the week of November 1 through 5, the Student Council under the leadership of sponsor, Ashley Padgett, empowered their student body to raise $2,786 by having children bring in their loose change. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s( LLS )Pennies for Patients program, one of LLS’s national School & YouthSM raises money to find cures for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma while providing information and support services to patients and their families.

County looking for other options with economic development PDF Print E-mail

The Washington County Council voted 4-3 at its regular meeting Monday to discontinue its funding of the Washington County Economic Growth Partnership to the tune of $65,000 a year.

According to Councilman Mark Manship the council moved the money, in that section of the budget from line 02 to 03. The 02 line is the Economic Growth Partnership money and 03 is economic development money.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Fred Glass today (Dec. 7) introduced University of Oklahoma offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson as IU's new head football coach. Last night, Glass and Wilson agreed to terms on a seven-year deal that will pay Wilson $1.2 million per year.

The quick action of two local troopers saved a New Albany man early Sunday morning Nov. 28.     At approximately 1:26 a.m., trooper Patrick Stinson was traveling north on State St. approaching Spring St. in New Albany when he was flagged down by a pedestrian.  
Stinson observed a white Dodge Neon had struck a tree and was on fire.

Hattabaugh songs featured in movie about NASCAR PDF Print E-mail

Janet Hattabaugh, 22, Pekin, has music from two of her songs in the soon to be released movie Red Dirt Rising.

The movie filmed on location in North Carolina tells the true story of some of the early drivers of NASCAR. How they survived the Depression by running moonshine, which later led into the origins of NASCAR.
