HCCF announces Lilly Scholarship Recipient PDF Print E-mail

One Harrison County student has been named a recipient of a four-year, full-tuition scholarship as the Harrison County Community Foundation 2012 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar.  Miranda Kaake will receive full tuition to the Indiana college of her choice and a $900 yearly stipend for required books and equipment.   Miranda intends to study Biology.

United Way $3.15 million for storm relief PDF Print E-mail

The significant recovery facing Southern Indiana communities from tornadoes early this month leaving a 50-mile trail of damage received a boost today as the Indiana Association of United Ways announced a grant of $3.15 million from Lilly Endowment Inc. for disaster recovery. IAUW will administer the grant designed to help communities and individuals.

EHS, SHS alumni banquets scheduled PDF Print E-mail

The Pekin/Eastern Alumni Banquet will be held on Saturday evening, April 28, at 6:30 pm in the Eastern High School cafeteria. Doors open at 5:30 pm. The classes of 1962, 1987, 2002 and 2012 will be honored.
The cost of tickets is $15. They are being sold at the New Washington State Bank in Borden, the PNC Bank in Pekin, and the PNC, First Harrison and Mid-Southern Banks and Salem Electric in Salem.

CHS teacher hit by vehicle last Tuesday evening PDF Print E-mail

On the April 3 at approximately 6:51 p.m., officers from the Charlestown Police Department were dispatched to Park Street near Level Street in reference to an accident involving a pedestrian.  Officers arrived on scene approximately two minutes later and learned that 30 year old Nicole Keith-Morrison had been struck by a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am, being driven by 30 year old Natalie Miller.

Pirate Pride All Sports Recognition Dinner & Auction to be held April 22 PDF Print E-mail

The fifth Annual Pirate Pride All Sports Recognition Dinner & Auction will be held on Sunday, April 22 in the Auxiliary Section of the CHS Sports Arena at Charlestown High School. The event, sponsored by the Charlestown Pirate Pride Booster Club, recognizes student athletes, coaches, staff and volunteers of all Charlestown High School sports, including the Marching Band of Pirates. Back by popular demand, the event will again be catered by the legendary Schnitzelbank Restaurant of Jasper. Doors will open at 4 p.m. and dinner will begin serving at 5:30 p.m. Don’t miss this opportunity to not only support Pirate Pride’s efforts in bolstering Pirate and Lady Pirate Athletics; but also help the community recognize all the outstanding high school student athletes in each sport. It’s a relaxing, enjoyable, family atmosphere event that hundreds regularly attend each year.
