The Charlestown Beautification Committee and the City of Charlestown are sponsoring the perfect family night out.
The Kelly Miller Circus, based in Hugo, Oklahoma, will be in Charlestown at Jonathan Jennings Elementary School on Friday, April 29. The circus brings an amazingly entertaining event of a real big top circus to Charlestown. The day the circus will be in Charlestown will be  a fun-filled day for all involved.

Multiple felony drug charges filed against Lexington-area resident PDF Print E-mail

An investigation of a recent domestic call resulted in the arrest of a Lexington area man on eight drug-related charges.
Daniel E. Richie, 31, Charlestown Road, was taken into custody by Chief Deputy Don Campbell on March 31 when Deputy Campbell went to a residence on East State Road 356 on a domestic situation or fight. As the officer pulled into the driveway of the residence, he said Richie sat down in the rear seat of a vehicle on the driver’s side. When he made contact with Richie, Chief Deputy Campbell related that he saw a handgun lying on the seat of the vehicle. Richie could not provide a valid firearm license for the weapon, the officer said, and was subsequently arrested.

The community is cordially invited to the Annual Scott County Prevent Child Abuse Candlelight Vigil on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 6:30 p.m.. The Vigil will be held on the Scott County Court House Lawn near the Gazebo. Family and members from the community are requested to attend in honor and remembrance of the children who died from abuse or neglect in 2010, most often at the hands of a loved one. Candlelight Vigil Guest Speaker, Lori Johnson Barrett, will be speaking about Suicide Intervention and Prevention.

The Salem High School Alumni Banquet will be held April, 29, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in Brooks Memorial Gym. Tommy Lancaster will cater the dinner. Honor classes are 1961, 1986 and 2011. Tickets are $14.00 per person and will be on sale from April 1st to April 23rd at Salem Apothecary, Dan Mar Pharmacy, LaGene Jewelers and Lincks Clothing. For group sales of 10 or more wishing to sit together contact Shirley Nale at 883-2176. The speaker for the 25 year class will be Lisa Soliday Wilson and the 50 year class will be Larry Anderson. Those wishing to order tickets by mail should send a self-addressed stamped envelope with a check made payable to Salem Alumni Association for the correct amount to Shirley Nale, PO box 404 Salem, In. 47167 and tickets will be mailed to you.

More than $7,000 raised basketball bash PDF Print E-mail

Last Saturday night over 250 attended the Basketball Bash for the kids with sever needs at the Borden Elementary school. There were also over 60 volunteers who played ball, ran contest, worked concessions and the silent auction. When the balls stopped bouncing and everything was taken care of the program will be benefited with over $7,000.
There was a three point shooting contest won by David Scott a former player from Graceland Christian, Miami Univ. of Ohio, 14 years of pro ball over seas and one of the ringers for Doc’s Destroyers. David hit 14 of 24 3-pt shots. He was gracious enough to donate his half of the entry donation to the cause.
