The culmination of three years of planning, fund raising and construction will be celebrated Saturday, July 20, with a ribbon cutting ceremony at The John Hay Center’s Depot railroad museum in Salem.
The event will take place at 11 a.m. at The Depot, 206 South College Ave.

Deputy shot, ISP K-9 killed during standoff

Between 11:30 and 12 noon on Monday, June 24 Sellersburg Police responded to a domestic call in the 800 block of Iowa Street in Sellersburg. When the Sellersburg officer arrived in the area he was confronted by the suspect who pointed a handgun at the officer. The officer took cover and shortly thereafter the suspect fled the area on foot and a foot pursuit ensued. The suspect attempted to gain entry into a couple of residences in the neighborhood where he finally entered the house at 712 E. Delaware Street. There was no one home at the residence at the time.

In its 28th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company, in collaboration with USA TODAY High School Sports, today announced Codie Hamsley of Floyd Central High School as its 2012-13 Gatorade Indiana Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year. Hamsley is the first Gatorade Indiana Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year to be chosen from Floyd Central High School.

Three recent injury accidents that happened in Scott County caused two people to be air-lifted by medical helicopter to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment and another to be sent to Scott Memorial Hospital.

Jessica Foster of Georgetown, Ind., was selected for an internship at Youth Villages, a private nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children and families live successfully. This is Foster’s second time to participate in Youth Villages’ summer internship program.
