On May 25, 2009 at approximately 4:10 a.m., emergency responders received a call regarding an injury crash on SR 111 in Floyd County just north of the Horseshoe Casino. Stat-Care Air Ambulance was called to the scene due to the severity of the injuries. The Floyd County Prosecutor’s Office Combined Accident Reconstruction Team (CART) was also called to the scene to assist with the investigation.
The Floyd County CART Team was formed in July 2007 by Floyd County Prosecutor to investigate all fatal crashes and crashes which result in serious bodily injury that may result in death or the potential for the filing of criminal charges. CART Members have additional training in crash reconstruction and scene diagramming.
The preliminary investigation shows that a southbound silver Ford Aerostar van crossed the center lane divider and struck a northbound white Jeep Grand Cherokee head-on. The driver of the van, Robert L. Goode, 25 years old, of Louisville, and the driver of the Grand Cherokee, Mary C. Ezell, 57 years old, also of Louisville, were both airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital. Their injuries and those of the single passengers in each vehicle are not believed to be life-threatening. It is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor in the crash. All occupants were wearing their seat belts which is believed to have reduced their injuries.
This crash is still under investigation. SR 111 was closed for approximately one and one-half hour while the patients were extricated and the on-scene investigation was conducted.
Assisting agencies included: Floyd County Police Department, Indiana State Police, New Chapel Fire Department, Yellow Ambulance, and Stat-Care Air Ambulance.

Highlanders win 9th straight girls’ tennis sectional crown PDF Print E-mail

Floyd Central won their own girls’ tennis sectional title Friday evening, after breezing through the sectional opponents by 5-0 scores in all three instances. They defeated Crawford County, North Harrison, and Eastern by sweeping all five points in each team match.
“They said it was nine in a row,” Floyd Central girls’ tennis coach Rick Miller said of the streak. He said an observer at the finals said the last time some other school won at Floyd Central was in 2000.
“We want the tradition to keep going,” he added.
Miller didn’t think the sectional was necessarily easy, though. He thought that the competition got stronger further into the sectional.
“I’ve got to give those other teams credit; Eastern played fantastic, and North Harrison played great.”
While they might have won the tourney, they also had fun in doing so, according to the coach.
“The kids were happy, and having a lot of fun, and enjoying themselves,” Miller said. He stresses enjoying the sport over always stressing out over winning by itself.
