Pirates cruise past Lions for 46-7 Homecoming victory PDF Print E-mail

 

The Salem Lions traveled to Charlestown last Friday night to try to spoil the Pirates' homecoming. Salem took the opening possession and found the scoreboard first but it would prove to be the only visitors' score on the evening in the Bone Yard. The Pirates would take control of the ballgame and answer the early Salem lead with a touchdown of their own. After Charlestown took the early lead, 12-7, the Pirates would never relinquish the lead as the Pirate defense denied any Lion trying to find the endzone after the opening possession. Charlestown took the 46-7 Mid Southern Conference victory. The Pirates now lead the series with the Lions, 22-21.

Salem hospital headed in right direction PDF Print E-mail

New carpet, curtains and furniture, as well as a fresh coat of paint, are just a few of the improvements being made at St. Vincent Salem Hospital.
Administrator Lee Jaeger, who has been at the hospital’s helm for a year, is excited about these cosmetic changes and is hoping the patients and visitors to the hospital are, too.

Highlanders fall to Columbus East, lose lead in HHC grid race PDF Print E-mail

The Floyd Central Highlanders lost 35-21 at Columbus East Friday in high school football action, ending any realistic chances of them sharing at least a tie for first place in the Hoosier Hills Conference race.

Defense, special teams lift EHS over NH PDF Print E-mail

A strong defensive effort, led by sophomore Brian Arnold’s two and a half sacks and two fumble recoveries, along with two special team touchdowns, propelled the Eastern Musketeers to 3-3 and a 27-12 win over visiting North Harrison.
The Musketeers trailed led 14-6 with time winding down late in the first half.
After scoring a touchdown to trim the Eastern advantage to two, the Cougars tried to get fancy with a squib kick that found its way into the hands of Jacob Portela.

Pirates hand Corydon first loss, 21-19 PDF Print E-mail

Last Friday night the Pirates of Charlestown were pumped and ready for a battle on the grid iron with the visiting Panthers of Corydon Central. Charlestown needed to knock off the undefeated No. 5 in the Coaches Poll and No. 4 in the Media Poll Panthers for a chance of claiming a share of the 2011 Mid Southern Conference title.
