The annual Charlestown Founder’s Day Prince and Princess Contest will take place on Saturday, June 12 at 2 p.m. It will be held at the Charlestown Arts and Enrichment Center located at 999 Water Street. There will be a $2 admission charge to attend.

Children interested in participating in the pageant must be between the ages of 4 and 6 on the day of the pageant. The rules of the pageant as well as applications are available at City Hall and online at www.ctownbeautification.com.

The winners of the prince and princess contest will each receive a $50 Toys-R-Us gift card and get to ride in a convertible during the Founder’s Day Parade on June 26. All participants will receive a small award, have his or her picture in The Leader in a full color article prior to the Founder’s Day Festival, and also ride on a float during the Founder’s Day parade.

The deadline to submit applications is Friday, May 28 and the fee to enter is $20. They will only accept applications from the first 20 boys and the first 20 girls.

The award winning Floyd Central Theatre Arts Department  under the direction of Chris Bundy will present an ecclectic evening of music and comedy on the  New Albany Riverfront Stage on the evening of May 29th at 7:30 p.m.

The Indiana High School Athletic Association boys’ and girls’ track sectionals were last week.
Floyd Central claimed a championship in the team scoring of both the boys’ and girls’ meets.
In the girls’ meet New Albany and North Harrison rounding out the top three.

Circuit Judge holds second annual mock trial for local Scouts PDF Print E-mail

Circuit Judge Daniel Moore held a Mock Trial for area boy scouts on Wednesday, April 28 and according to the Judge, “it was a huge success and a good educational experience.”
This is Moore’s second year as Circuit Court Judge and he frequently schedules events like these as part of his Riding The Circuit program, to reach out into the community and expand knowledge of the court system.

Funeral home director held while inquiry about human remains continues PDF Print E-mail

Indiana State Police are continuing an investigation involving human and animal remains found in a building on the grounds of R.D. Pyke Funeral Service in Henryville last week.

Richard D. Pyke, 42, owner/operator of R.D. Pyke Funeral Service in Henryville, and his 19-year-old son, Richard “Bradley” Pyke, were arrested by ISP detectives in an undercover sting operation on Wednesday evening, May 12.
