The second annual “Seasonings” for SOAR!, a chili cook-off  to benefit Washington County SOAR!, will be held Saturday, March 5 at the American Legion Bingo Hall from 4-8 pm.
Chili aficionados will enjoy the many varieties of chili offered by the teams of chili chefs, along with sandwiches, drinks, homemade desserts, and all the fixings.

Eagle Scout project benefits The Depot in Salem PDF Print E-mail

Viewing the model train operation at The Depot railroad museum in Salem will be easier for young children, thanks to the efforts of a Boy Scout who was working to achieve his Eagle rank.
Chris Schroder, 15, has now completed requirements for Eagle Scout. Three days before Christmas he appeared before the Eagle District Board of Review and was awarded the Eagle rank.
“I have finally completed my journey and I am now an Eagle Scout,” Schroder said.

The North Harrison Board of School Trustees approved 4-0 a new contract with the corporation’s teachers at the board’s regular monthly meeting Thursday night in the North Harrison High School Auditeria.
The atmosphere was one of relief more than joy at the meeting. North Harrison Supt. John Roeder was aware of the atmosphere himself.

Floyd starts off with 14-0 lead over NH; hangs on for 48-33 victory
It’s a good thing that the Floyd Central Highlanders got off to a 14-0 start in their home contest with the North Harrison Cougars Saturday night, because the Cougars outscored them only 34-33 the rest of the way.
The opening onslaught took place over the first seven minutes of the game, and it forced North Harrison into two time outs by the 1:01 mark in the 1st quarter.

2011 STATE OF THE STATE ADDRESS
JANUARY 11, 2011
Mr. Speaker, members of the Assembly, Hoosier friends and neighbors, thank you yet again for the privilege of this platform.  
For most of us, one of the strongest memories of our youth is that great school teacher, that magical man or woman who somehow reached us, and stretched us, and in the process left indelible recollections. For me, one of those was Bob Watson—still, today, Mr. Watson to me—who introduced us to the mysteries of the periodic table in high school chemistry.  In addition to mixing potions that suddenly turned purple, and terrifying pop quizzes, Mr. Watson was famous for his aphorisms, little sayings so often repeated that his students still smile and recite them to each other decades later. And the most frequently applied of all Watson’s wisdoms was: “Good things come to those who wait. Patience is the essence of life.”
