The chill of fall will soon be in the air, which means Friday Night on the Square is also quickly approaching. The festival will take place on September 14 from 6 to 10 pm. Traffic will be blocked off from the square during this time.
In addition to the various booths that are scattered around the square representing local business and organizations, the Washington County Chamber of Commerce has been working hard to bring some new attractions to the Friday night celebration, and even a few familiar events from past festivals.

It was a two-day affair, and while the home team controlled the line of scrimmage on Saturday, the West Washington Senators couldn’t overcome their mistakes, falling to their Patoka Lake Athletic Conference (PLAC) foe, the Commodores of Perry Central, 27-6 in varsity football action at Art Sander’s Field.

With just three races remaining on the 2012 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule the annual fall visit to the high banks of Salem Speedway on Saturday is certainly significant for the drivers and teams that started the season back in February at Daytona International Speedway.

Salem golfers win MSC title PDF Print E-mail

For the first time since 2007, the Salem High School girls’ golf team claimed the Mid Southern Conference championship, which was held last Saturday at Corydon.
Brittney Walker and Emily Motsinger earned spots on the  All Conference team while Amber Kilburn earned Honorable Mention.

Members of the team who participated in Saturday’s conference meet are pictured at right. They are, Madison Aly, Brittney Walker, Emily Motsinger, Chelsea Lamb and Amber Kilburn.

This summer, the local tobacco control coalition for Washington County is promoting a statewide stop smoking contest known as “Quit Now Indiana”.  This year’s theme seeks to encourage tobacco users to use the summer months to “train” for their next quit attempt.
