An autopsy was performed at the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville, on Lily Calvin, a five month old female from Salem.  Lily’s parents are Joshua Calvin and Jessica (White) Calvin.
The autopsy was unable to determine a cause of death. The autopsy will not be complete until the toxicology results return which typically take up to six weeks.

Barricaded suspect arrested by ISP PDF Print E-mail

On December 29, at approximately 9:28 p.m., Officers from the Indiana State Police and the Washington County Sheriff’s Department attempted to serve several Felony and Misdemeanor arrest warrants on a suspect identified as Billy D. McKinney 38, at a residence located at 9908 Cedar Lane in Hardinsburg, Indiana.

Salem Homeschool Academy holds end-of-semester program PDF Print E-mail

The Salem Homeschool Academy, an organization providing supplementary coursework for local homeschool students, held the closing program for their fall semester on December 20, 2010.  
The program opened with a violin duet to the tune of “Jingle Bells.”  Following the music, instructors from ten courses explained the objectives of their individual classes, as well as student expectations and activities.
Students from each class then held demonstrations highlighting the skills and knowledge they gained throughout the course of the semester.  Students revealed their understanding in a variety of ways.  Some read essays, research papers and persuasive speeches.

GKN receives tax abatement PDF Print E-mail

The progress at GKN was one of the highlights at the City of Salem council meeting last Monday night. GKN controller Robert Clark attended the meeting along with Washington County Economic Growth Partnership Director Lana Sullivan.
Clark said the company is currently wrapping up a $1 million investment, as well as a project for Chrysler. He said additional employees were hired in August and November.
He told the council a $4.2 million investment is on the table for 2011, with hopes of increasing to a $10 million investment within three years.

Improving Floyd County’s drinking water PDF Print E-mail

The Floyd County and New Albany Stormwater Boards have been busy this year.  Efforts are being made to improve the water quality in Floyd County and New Albany. These efforts include education/outreach to the public, improvement projects and maintenance to the stormwater systems .
