According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 15 counties in Indiana had high fatality rates in crashes involving large trucks, in 2015. While Clark, Scott, and Washington counties didn’t make the list, sharing the road with a semi can still be risky, particularly on Thursdays.

For more than 100 years, the beginning of every racing season in Washington County has been marked by the sounds of thunder coming up from the valley at the Washington County Fairgrounds. Since the end of the 2015 season, however, Thunder Valley Raceway has fallen silent.

Indiana Department of Transportation’s contractor is accelerating its schedule to begin full- and partial-depth patching along State Road 56 in Washington County to Friday (AUGUST 4).  Pavement repairs between Salem and Livonia are expected to continue for two weeks.

Benjamin P. Cobb, 37, Vallonia, was recently arrested and is facing two counts of child molesting.
