A little more than a week after defeating the Salem Lions at home in Pekin, Eastern defeated Salem 10-9 in the championship game of the Washington County Tourney Saturday, at Salem.
Eastern led by a slim 7-6 margin when in the bottom of the sixth inning, Salem went on to score three runs and take a 10-6 lead.

Salem FD swears in two new fire fighters PDF Print E-mail

Two new members of the Salem Fire Department were sworn in Tuesday morning at city hall: Matt Kidd and Maurice Jones, Jr.
Both men have been volunteers for the department for several years, Kidd for seven and Jones for four.
Fire Chief Roger Pennington said he is excited to have both join the department full-time.
He said that while the position was open to the public, those who have been volunteering had a leg up due to their experience and training.

Smedley Scholarship Fund Open Horse Show to be held May 8 PDF Print E-mail

The Smedley Scholarship Trust Fund committee announced that the annual open horse show will be held May 8 at the Washington County Fairgrounds beginning at 11 am.
The show features a variety of classes for adults and youth, including halter, showmanship, equitation, walk-trot, trail, country pleasure, western pleasure, and reining.

Man pronounced dead at the scene of April 21 crash PDF Print E-mail

A Salem man is dead following a car crash that occurred on April 21, 2011 just after noon. The crash took place on State Road 135 South, four miles south of Salem, according to Washington County Sheriff's Department Detective Brent Miller.
