The Salem High School boys’ basketball team is 2-2 and the season has had a little bit of everything to this point.
The most recent win, and the only game played last week was a 79-49 thrashing of the host Mitchell Bluejackets.
Salem Head Coach Hank Weedin said the win over the Jackets was a team effort.

" I thought they all played pretty well," he said. "Ian (Bowling) led us with 16 rebounds and Zach (Bowling) had 22 points. Ian and Kyle Taylor also did a good job of forcing turnovers in the front of our press."

The Jackets were win-less entering last Saturday’s game and the Lions kept that trend going.

Weedin said although his team loist two Brownstown and BNL, he is pleased with the start.

"We have a pretty tough schedule, especially to start the season," Weedin said. "The only game I felt like we didn't perform closer to what we are capable of was the Brownstown game.  I thought we played pretty well against BNL but just had too many turnovers and not enough trip to the line."
Salem know turns their attention to the First Harrison Bank Holiday Tournament Dec. 16-17.
The Lions will play in the opening game against West Washington Friday at 6 p.m. and Borden will battle Eastern at 7:45.

Weedin said his team will face a completely different West Washington team than the one they faced on Nov. 13.

"Number one, I think West Washington has gotten their game legs under them," he said. "They had a lot of inexperienced varsity players that were playing varsity for the first time.  Now they are finding their roles and are more comfortable.  I think they are doing a better job of getting the ball to their go to players also.

"I would be surprised if these games don't come down to a couple of possessions.  West Washington will be playing to win so we have to come out ready to play or we will be playing the 6:00 on Saturday."
