James Day and Shirley Batt were recognized on Saturday, August 10 at the Indiana State Fair as tenured 4-H volunteers from Washington County. Jim was recognized for 55 years and Shirley for 25 years. Unable to attend the Tenured 4-H Volunteer program, but also recognized was Rita Deaton for 35 years.

The Salem High School girls’ golf team finished third at the Mid Southern Conference meet held at Old Capital in Corydon on Sept. 14. They followed that with a second-place showing at last Saturday’s golf sectional in Bedford.

Washington County Assessor Jason Cockerill’s hard work is being recognized across the state. In the last month, he has been named Indiana Assessor of the Year, Southeast District Assessor of the Year and has been assigned to the Association of Indiana Counties (AIC) Legislative Committee.
