During the five-year history of the Dowling Trophy, which is awarded to the Washington County Football champion each year, Salem is the only team to have it for multiple seasons.
That changed last Friday as West Washington earned the trophy in convincing fashion, 42-0.
The Senators, who have won the last three meetings in the series by a combined 126-28, didn’t waste anytime taking control of the contest.

It took eight weeks, but the Eastern High School football team finally earned its first win of the season, 35-8, last Friday at Crawford County.
The Musketeers wasted little time taking control of the game as they scored 13 points in the opening quarter and 15 in the second.

Lt. Governor Becky Skillman awarded a $400,000 Community Focus Fund (CFF) grant to Washington County for a new fire station.
Thirty-eight communities were recognized during a statehouse ceremony, with grant awards totaling more than $16 million.
The grant will assist in the construction a new fire station in the Blue River District.

The season ended for the Eastern High School boys’ tennis team last week.
The Musketeers started the week off with a 3-2 win over Salem, but then lost Wednesday, Sept. 26 in the first round of sectionals to the Highlanders of Floyd Central, 5-0.
