?    Based upon two successful seasons of the “pilot” program at Silver Creek,  the West Clark Community School Board has been asked to approve the start of the football program in Henryville.
At the December school board meeting, booster member Linda Uhl, supported by parents and members of the community, asked the school board to put the Henryville vote on their agenda for the January meeting.
There has always been strong community support for the implementation of this new athletic program but the school board elected to make Silver Creek a “pilot” before approving other programs. Success of the pilot program was based not only on game scores but noticeable improvement in academic performance, attendance and behavior in players. Teachers and school administrators have commented on the positive changes they have observed in members of the football team.
If you are interested in getting the football program in Henryville schools underway, the Boosters encourage you to attend the January school board meeting.  The meeting will be held on Thursday, January 8  at the West Clark Community School Administration building next to Silver Creek High School. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m.

?CBC ends Bicentennial stepping stone sales PDF Print E-mail

?    The Charlestown Beautification Committee has ended the sale of the Bicentennial stepping stones and ask that those that have not picked up their stones take their ticket stub to the Concrete Lady on Highway 3 and pick the stones up.
The Concrete Lady ran some extra stepping stones so those that did not get a chance to buy from the CBC can go directly to the plant and purchase any of the four designs.
According to Chairperson Jo Ann Goodlett, the committee had a net profit of over $3,500 from the sales of the stones that helped fund the Bicentennial event.
The Woods family have again agreed to donate a 2009 stone to help fund the CBC in 2009. Artist Dixie Busby is working with the Concrete Lady on the new design that will be ready this Spring.
The Beautification Committee would like to extend their thanks to Carl, Peggy and Tony Woods of the Concrete Lady and to artist Dixie Busby and Jo Ann Goodlett and Geri Heal for their work in making this project a success.

?    Local photography studio, Moments Photography, is participating in the National Charity Model Search to select “America’s Cutest Kid” and to raise funds for charity.
Participating photographers will submit portraits of local children, ages 18 months to 14 years, for online voting to determine the city finalist. The child voted city finalist may elect to serve as a model during the 2009 Sandy Puc Tots 2 Teens Seminar Tour at a city near their home.
City finalists are determined by online votes. Anyone may vote. Each vote is $1, and all proceeds from each vote benefit Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep (NILMDTS.org).
Photography and modeling industry experts will determine the contest’s national winner. The national model winner receives many prizes, including a $5,000 US Savings Bond and a Canon PowerShot G10 digital camera.
Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep (NILMDTS), is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization committed to assisting parents and families going through the difficult time when they experience an early infant loss. NILMDTS connects families with photographers and provides them with a DVD and a reproducible CD of the images of their baby at no cost to the family.
For further information on NILMDTS, visit their website at www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org.
“It’s such a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness for NILMDTS,” says Lori Reeder, owner of Moments Photography,  “plus it will be lots of fun for the children who are entering the contest.”
Sandy Puc, Model Search organizer, has long believed charitable work is the backbone of the community. She created this contest to highlight excellence in the portrait photography industry as well as raise funds for NILMDTS, and organization she co-founded in 2005.
Parents who want to enter their children in the contest may do so by calling Moments Photography at 812-256-5614. Session fees are only $25 and special reprint pricing is available.
Reeder has been a professional photographer practicing in the Kentuckiana area for over 10 years.  In addition to volunteering as a photographer for NILMDTS, Reeder works with many special needs children.
