?FEMA awards $94,402 in assistance grants to Monroe Township Volunteer Fire Department PDF Print E-mail

 ?  The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) awarded $94,402 from the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program to the Monroe Township Volunteer Fire Department in Henryville, Ind. Nationally, the fiscal year (FY) 2008 AFG awards will provide approximately $500 million to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations throughout the country.
   The AFG and SAFER programs are the result of an effort by the Federal government to ensure the provision of a solid foundation for local fire and emergency response services. These grants help to ensure the nation’’s firefighters have the basic tools and resources necessary to safely perform their responsibilities, save lives and continue to protect residents from fire.

?Clark County Property Tax Extension PDF Print E-mail

?    Shirley Nolot, Clark County Treasurer, has extended the property tax deadline for Clark County to Friday, February 6 due to the bad weather. Shirley recognized the bad weather has kept property owners from being able to get out and didn’t want owners penalized due to the weather.
    The second installment for the property taxes from 2007 due in 2008 was to be paid by Tuesday, February 3 and the deadline has been extended to Friday, February 6.
    Nolot wanted to remind taxpayers they can pay their taxes in person at the Treasurer’s office at the Court House in Jeffersonville. They can also mail the taxes to The Clark County Treasurer, PO Box 1508, Jeffersonville, IN 47131. Taxpayers can also pay their taxes at New Washington State Bank, Main Source Bank and Community Bank.
    Nolot hopes that this will help everyone make the due date.

?CCSO advises delay in 2009 ATV permits PDF Print E-mail

?    Clark County Sheriff Danny Rodden advises residents that there has been a delay in receiving the 2009 ATV permits.
    The permits should be in the office by February 15 however interested people should call the Clark County Sheriff’s Office at 283-4471 before coming in to ensure the new permits have arrived.
    The 2008 ATV permits will be honored until the new permits arrive.
    Sheriff Rodden and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office is sorry for any inconvenience this delay may cause.

?CCSO make arrests in burglary of four wheelers and dirt bikes in Henryville area PDF Print E-mail

?    The Clark County Sheriff’s Office received a phone call around 4:30 a.m. on January 9 regarding three male subjects walking around in the roadway on Daulton Street in Henryville. The activity seemed suspicious and a request to check the area was made.
    After receiving the call Deputy Brian Lovins found the vehicle matching the earlier description and made a traffic stop.
    Lovins learned from talking to the occupants of the vehicle, 19 year old Vincent Hawkins, 23 year old Daniel Hawkins and a juvenile, they were looking for the juvenile’s brother. During the conversation with them Lovins asked about two dirt bikes located in the bed of the truck and a four-wheeler on the trailer. The occupants stated they were the owners of the dirt bikes and four-wheeler.

?CPD solves burglary case that reconnects soldier’s family PDF Print E-mail

?    On January 2 Charlestown City Police Officer Andrew Wathen stopped a tan colored SUV after the driver was observed as swerving all over the roadway.  
    Officer Wathen made contact with the driver, who was identified as 22 year old Kyle Bullard and the passenger, 24 year old Erik Crowder both of Charlestown. Through Wathen’s investigation he arrested Bullard for suspicion of drunk driving. With the assistance of CPD Officer Joe Jones a search of the vehicle was conducted in which officers discovered a Gateway brand laptop computer located on the vehicles driver’s side front dashboard along with multiple diamond rings, men’s watches, and necklaces located both inside the vehicle’s console and inside Crowder’s pants pockets.
