Through local support, Forget Me Not Ministries is making a difference PDF Print E-mail
Rachel Ross, 33, formerly of Sellersburg, Indiana, formed Forget Me Not Ministries (FMN) in 2006 after five summers, a six month internship, and two years working directly with the abandoned children in state hospitals in Romania.  FMN works directly with the Roma (Gypsy) population of 3,000, which is one of the largest Roma communities in Romania.  Rachel and her daughter, Iza, first met when Ross cared for her in the state hospital.  Iza has been cared for by Rachel since she was one year old.  After a long process, the adoption was finalized in 2010.  Iza is now 10 years old.

Local wildland fire fighter helps in California’s large rim fire PDF Print E-mail

Shelley Grimes, a residence of Otisco, is currently out west fighting the large Rim Fire located in California. The Rim fire has scorched over 225,000 acres and now is the fourth largest wildfire in California’s recorded history. Nearly 5,000 fire personnel are now battling the flames of the Rim Fire. Grimes is part of a 20 person hand crew that is creating fire breaks in order to prevent the fire from spreading. She and her crew are on a 14 day deployment working 16 to 18 hours a day, sleeping in tents and often in self sufficient Spike Camps. Spike Camps are defined as a Fire Camp with minimum facilities established along the fire line with no electric, running water, and often no communication with the outside.

Three recent vehicular accidents in Scott County and Scottsburg left six people injured, according to reports released by the Sheriff’s Department and Scottsburg City Police Department.
