 ?    The Community Foundation of Southern Indiana awarded $198,542 to southern Indiana high school students for the 2008-2009 school year.
The scholarships include those originated by families to honor loved ones as well as those established by foundations or organizations to encourage the pursuit of advanced education. In addition to those funds, CFSI administers the Lilly Endowment Community Scholars program, which awarded six full tuition scholarships this year to six area high school students.
    Scholarships were awarded in Clark, Floyd and Harrison counties. High School seniors in any of those three counties were invited to apply.
    Students are encouraged to join the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana’s Facebook group to keep updated on scholarship deadlines an information. Scholarship applications for rising seniors will be available in the fall of 2008.

?2nd annual All Community Skills & Drills Football Clinic to be held this weekend PDF Print E-mail

?  ?  Get ready for some football fun! For the second year, West Clark Football Boosters are sponsoring an All Community Skills & Drills Football Clinic and everyone between the ages of 8 and 13 are invited to attend!
    All the best coaches from local communities including some former U of L players will be working under the direction of Mike Flores, former NFL player to teach your children important skills that will help them perform at their best during the upcoming football season. The coaches really make learning and practicing fun and they know the kids will get a great deal from the clinic.
    Each participant is given a camp t-shirt at registration and lunch will be provided both days. All you have to do is bring your child to registration, complete the necessary paperwork and know that they will be having a great learning experience each day.

? ?    The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has declared the counties of Orange, Scott and Washington and the contiguous counties of Clark, Crawford, Dubois, Floyd, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson and Jennings disasters areas due to damages caused by severe storms and flooding that occurred March 18-20, 2008. Hill encourages those affected to apply for SBA physical damage and/or economic injury loans. The deadline to apply for Physical Disaster Loans is July 7, 2008. The deadline to apply for Economic Injury Disaster Loans is not until February 5, 2009.
    “I am pleased that the SBA has allowed those affected by harsh weather to apply for compensation for the damages they incurred,” Hill said. “A lot of people lost a lot of money because of this damage, and they are in need of some assistance.”
    The types of disaster loans available to affected persons are Home Disaster Loans, Business Physical Disaster Loans and Economic Injury Disaster Loans. Home Disaster Loans are described by SBA as loans to homeowners or renters to repair or replace disaster damaged real estate or personal property owned by the victim. Business Physical Disaster Loans are described by the SBA as loans to businesses to repair or replace disaster-damaged property owned by the business, including real estate, inventories, supplies, machinery and equipment. Businesses of any
size are eligible. Non-profit organizations such as charities, churches, private universities, etc., are also eligible. Economic Injury Disaster Loans are described by the SBA as loans for working capital to small businesses and small agricultural cooperatives to assist them through the disaster recovery period. Interest rates are fixed for the term of all loans.

? ??   ?    The New Washington Fire Department will be hosting its annual Fireman’s Picnic on July 11 and 12 at the Fireman’s fairgrounds in New Washington.
    World Famous fish sandwiches will be served starting Friday night at 5 p.m. Full fish dinners are also available as well as grilled hamburgers, hotdogs and bratwurst. There will also be a large selection of desserts and hand dipped ice cream. Friday night’s free entertainment will be the Ross Country Jamboree, bring your lawn chairs.
    Also on Friday, Parlor style Bingo will be played inside the firehouse. You must be over 18 years old to play. Guaranteed $500 payout on coverall game. A raffle drawing will also be held on Saturday with numerous door prizes and a $500 winner will be selected at 8 p.m.
