CLARK COUNTY, Ind.—The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to close the onramp at Memphis Road to southbound Interstate 65 at Exit 16 next Tuesday (SEPTEMBER 6). The entrance ramp will remain closed for approximately ten days while construction crews pave I-65 mainline lanes at that location. Meanwhile, Memphis Road remains open at the I-65 overpass.
I-65’s existing traffic pattern routes southbound motorists to the east side of interstate at a median crossover near mile marker 16.4—then back to the west side near mile marker 11.0. Voiding this 5½-mile section of I-65 allows INDOT’s contractor, E & B Paving, to remove and replace existing pavement, install drainage structures and do ditch work on the west side of the interstate.
INDOT’s $67 million Major Moves 2020 project in Clark County is reconstructing the roadway and adding travel lanes on I-65 from 2.8 miles south of S.R. 160 near Memphis Road to 1.02 miles north of S.R. 60 just past Old State Road 311. This work includes new bridge superstructures at Memphis Road, Perry Crossing, Muddy Fork and Old S.R. 311.
