The young Providence Lady Pioneers turned in a valient effort for four innings in the season-opener March 30 at Floyd Central, but came out on the short end of the 14-3 score.

Providence scored one run in the first, one in the third and another in the top of the fifth and trailed just six three behind a strong pitching performance by freshman Katie Flanagan.

In the bottom of the fifth is when the wheels fell off. Seven Lady Highlanders in a row reached base in the bottom of the fifth and they went on to score eight runs, ending the contest via the 10-run rule.

Charlestown awarded Economic Development Grant PDF Print E-mail

Charlestown has announced that the city received a $50,000 grant from the Lt. Governor Becky Skillman through the Office of Community and Rural Affairs (ORCA).
The grant has allowed the City to contract with Ball State University (BSU) the development of a long?term strategic economic development plan for technology advancements for businesses and the community.
The Ball State team of experts are part of the university’s Building  Better Communities initiative, will allow for a collaborative effort  between the city and the university to develop a plan in four phases,  which is expected to be completed around the end of this year.
Economic development is one of the key focuses of City’s Connecting
Charlestown 2015 initiative.

On Thursday, March 18, Dr. Stephen Daeschner, Superintendent of Greater Clark County Schools, announced two administrative changes for the 2010-2011 school year.
Steve Morris will assume a new position in the Greater Clark County School Corporation as Principal of Development. The Principal of Development position will be responsible for the following district wide instructional responsibilities:
*Assisting with professional development delivery throughout the District to secondary schools (middle and high schools).
*Developmental and implementation of an evaluation model for professional development.
*Development of a secondary counseling model; implementation and training of counselors on model.
*Development and implementation of an evaluation tool for secondary counseling model.
*Improve transition of all District eighth graders to ninth grade.
*Assist with coordination of alternative education opportunities for secondary students.
*Design and implement end-of-course testing for middle and high school core courses.
*Coordinate the implementation of the “Race to the Top” district-wide proposal.
*Assist in coordination of intervention model for all secondary schools.
*Assist Assistant Superintendent for Leadership and Superintendent on duties as assigned.
*Any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

New Charlestown sports arena scoreboard and blue, spark more excitement PDF Print E-mail

Construction of the new Charlestown High School Sports Arena continues to progress on schedule, but the recent coats of blue paint and the matching scoreboard really are sparking more excitement and Pirate Pride. 
The new sports arena will seat approximately 3,200 fans in a "Pit Style" design, includes six locker rooms, and an attached auxiliary double gymnasium.
Based on the current construction schedule, the commencement ceremonies of the class of 2010 will be held in the new facility this June.
