?    Season tickets are now on sale at Austin High School for both boys’ and girls’ basketball games.
    Adult season tickets cost $35 for boys’ games and $35 for girls’ games. A combination adult ticket can be bought for $60, advised Athletic Director Mike Deaton.
    In addition, students can buy an athletic pass for $25 each. An adult athletic pass is available for $75. Both types of passes cover other high school sporting events being offered in District 1, including spring baseball and softball in 2009.
    None of these tickets and passes will be recognized at girls’ IHSAA sectional games nor at boys’ holiday tournaments.
    Sales of tickets and passes will continue through November at AHS. Call Deaton at 794-8730 for more information.

?Hyosung (America) blames planned closure of American Steel Cord plant on economic downturn PDF Print E-mail

?    Officials in the New York City office of Hyosung (America) Inc. announced Thursday, October 30, that its facility in Scottsburg, known as American Steel Cord, will close its doors as of December 31.
    Operations are discontinuing at the plant on the west side of Scottsburg due to “...economic conditions and an increasingly competitive industry,” according to the news release. The closure will affect 154 people now employed at American Steel Cord (ASC).
    “The extremely challenging industry, which has been impacted due to reduced demand, high utility costs and other economic factors, has forced this decision,” according to a company official.
    The site, the release said, has been operated at a loss for the past two years. Hyosung officials had sought “...every opportunity to turn the performance around; however, it became very evident we had no option but to make this difficult decision. We regret the impact this difficult decision will have on the Scottsburg workforce, along with their families and the community.”

?Fall’s ‘B’ installment of taxes due November 10 PDF Print E-mail

?    The fall installment, or Part B, of property tax statements will be due at the Scott County Treasurer’s Office by Monday, November 10, Treasurer Iva Gasaway has advised.
    To make payments, persons may bring their B statements to the office, located on the first floor of the Courthouse on its east side. Hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
    Those who prefer to pay via mail should send their payments in check or money order form to the Treasurer’s Office. Enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope to have a receipt mailed back. If no envelope is enclosed, a receipt will not be returned. Postmark dates will determine on-time payments.
    Property owners may also take their “B” statements and payments to either Stock Yard Bank or Indiana Bank and Trust, the former Home Federal Bank, in Austin. Both banks are authorized to accept payments.
    Credit cards and debit cards are not accepted at the Treasurer’s Office to pay property taxes.
    Those with questions may call the Treasurer’s Office at 752-8414 for more information.

?    The Scott County Senior team won Saturday, November 1, against the visiting  Borden Braves by a score of  14-12.  This advances the team to the Championship round to be held on Saturday, November 8, against the New Washington Mustangs.
   The Thunder offense was led by Billy Banta, Brandon Browning, Tyler Whitfield, and quarter back Jake Jackson.   Defensive players, Joe Henline, Wes Chapman, andTravis Lauterbach helped to stop the Braves.   The rest of the team members are, Brian Ashabranner, Zach Bacon, Tyler Boswell, Colton Bowles, Chris Bray, Bailey Brooks, Ryder Couch, Wes Deal, Zach Deaton, Justin Gary, Stephen Gary, David G’Fellers, Travis Grant, Landon Gray, Kirk Hardin, Justin Jackson, Kolby Mount, Joey Romero, Mitch Stagnolia, Corey Stewart, Marcus Stotts, Brandon Tincher, and Zach Whitis.
   The coaching staff includes Jason Hillenberg, Chris Romero, Jerry Owens, and Jimmy Jackson.  Everyone is invited to come out and show your support on Saturday, November 8, at 2 p.m. for the Championship game to be held at the Sellersburg Community Park.

??    Scottsburg High School athletes receive recognition during the fall sports banquet for which was conducted on Thursday, October 27.
    In girls’ cross country awards, Bridget Elliott was honored as Most Valuable Runner and Most Valuable Freshmen Runner. Shelby Hale received Most Improved Runner while Loren Douglas received the team’s Mental Attitude Award.
    Boys’ cross country awards went to Felix Neace for Mental Attitude; Codee LaMaster for Most Valuable Freshmen award; Logan Wells, Most Improved; and Kris Sandlin, Most Valuable Runner Award, Mis-Southern Conference, Sectional, Regional and Semi-State awards.
