A sewer rate ordinance will be presented during the Monday, February 5, meeting of the Scottsburg City Council at City Hall.
The Council meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
According to the proposed ordinance, rate increases and changes elsewhere in the ordinance dealing with tap-in fees, will be implemented in three phases. Each phase will cost the average user of 4,000 gallons per month 50 cents more per day. Of city users, 60% use 4,000 gallons or less per month.
The breakdown of the project to improve the sewer plant and the collection system is:
?Repairs to wastewater plant, $11,043,250.
?Repairs to collection system, $2,500,000.
?Construction contingency costs, $1,354,325.
Non-construction costs of the project:
?Total engineering, $1,726,765.
?Bond Anticipation Note (BAN) retirement, $1,410,000.
?BAN interest, $197,400.
?Bond counsel, $190,260.
The grand total of the project is $18,422,000.
Council members have determined that this scope of work will enable the current plant to continue in operation and meet the required standards of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM). The project will also improve service to residents and customers by continuing to eliminate leaks in the collection system, thus making it more efficient and helping to keep operating costs at a minimum.
