A motorist who allegedly drove left of the center line on State Road 56 has been charged in Scott Circuit Court after an Indiana State Police trooper reportedly found over three grams of cocaine in his car.
Stephen L. Curry, 43, Louisville, Ky., was stopped on Saturday, July 27, while driving east on State Road 56. ISP Trooper Shannon Burton stated in his probable cause affidavit that he initiated the traffic stop because Curry had driven left of the center in a 2010 Nissan pickup truck.
The stop was made near the state highway’s intersection with Cardinal Lane west of Scottsburg.
Curry was initially placed into custody on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (OVI).
As an inventory was taken of items in the impounded Nissan pickup, Trp. Burton said three plastic bags containing cocaine were found in its center console.
Curry was assigned a jury trial date of December 17 for charges that include possession of cocaine, a Class C felony; maintaining a common nuisance, a Class D felony; and two counts of OVI, the first a Class A misdemeanor and the second a Class C misdemeanor.
Bail was set at $50,000 corporate surety bond or full cash.
Since Curry indicated he may employ an attorney, a review hearing was scheduled for Monday, August 5, to determine that status.
