An arrest warrant was issued June 21 for  Scott County woman who allegedly bilked an insurance company out of as much as $19,000.

Criminal charges of burglary and theft have been filed against a local couple in connection with incidents investigated by the Scottsburg Police Department in 2014 and similar cases which happened in April and early June.

Scott County Fair Board members have set a Friday, July 1, deadline for renting grandstand box seats as well as for vendors wanting spots to set up their stands during the 2016 Scott County Fair.

The fair will operate July 10 to 16. Grandstand events have been scheduled for each night, the first time in several years that a full schedule of attractions has been planned.

Letters were sent out recently to people who have rented grandstand box seats previously. Once the July 1 deadline passes, those box seats will be offered to the general public, advised the board's secretary/treasurer, Tonya Richey.

“We strongly suggest those who got letters and want to again reserve their box seats to follow the instructions given and contact us,” Richey stated.

Vendors thinking about reserving indoor booths or outside areas during the fair also need to make up their minds and contact board member Roy Binkley quickly. Binkley can be reached by calling 812-595-0971. The amount due can be collected after the vendor has set up.

“We need a good idea about reserved spots because we have quite a list of new vendors who would like to come. If we don't hear from you by July 1, we'll be calling someone else to fill your space,” Binkley said.

The Fair Board has scheduled its last business meeting for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28. The meeting will be held at the old Scott County Saddle Club building at the fairgrounds.




Couple enter not guilty pleas in Scottsburg home marijuana 'grow' case PDF Print E-mail

A Scottsburg couple accused of growing and selling marijuana in their home have entered not guilty pleas to the Superior Court cases filed against them.

Both Jeremy R. Bowman, 41, and Paula Michelle Bowman, 39, were to have appeared for initial hearings on Monday morning, June 20. Instead, the couple waived their rights to initial hearings through their attorney on June 15 and entered not guilty pleas to dealing in marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance, both Level 6 felonies, and possession of marijuana, Class B misdemeanor. Jeremy Bowman was also charged with possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

The couple allegedly grew marijuana in their attached garage and in an upstairs bedroom at their home on Kristina Court.

Each has a jury trial scheduled for September 19.

The pair was released on cash bonds of $3,000 each, which were paid on Monday, June 20.

The purported host and a total of 11 alleged underage drinkers were taken into custody by sheriff's deputies early on Sunday, June 19, at a home west of Austin.

Deputy James Shelton prepared all charges of illegal possession/consumption or transportation of alcohol by a minor, a Class C misdemeanor against those 11. He also filed charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a Class A misdemeanor, and furnishing alcohol to a minor, a Class B misdemeanor, against the alleged host of the party, Daniel Keith Alexander, 21.

In alphabetical order, other defendants include:

Malachi David Akemon, 19, Lexington.

Christina Lynn Bowles, 20, Austin.

Shelby E. Burchett, 20, Austin.

Mary Jane Campbell, 18, Austin.

Anthony Lee Hall, 18, Scottsburg.

Mason Tanner Johnson, 20, Scottsburg.

David Todd Jessup, 18, Austin.

Brooklyn Shea Lytle, 19, Austin.

Ethan Reece Napier, 18, Austin.

Angela K. Rice, 19, Austin.

Cameron M. Turner, 20, Austin.

Initial hearings for each were conducted in Scott Superior Court on Monday, June 20. In all cases, bail was set at $2,500 by corporate surety bond or $250 cash and trial proceedings for each defendant were set for either August 18 or 23.

By that Monday afternoon, all had been released on cash bonds to await their trials.
