A bizarre attack against a fellow female inmate at the Scott County Security Center at the end of December, 2010, has led to several criminal charges being filed against two women this month.
Samantha Williams, 30, Underwood, and Lorria Winchester, 38, are alleged to have attacked the woman, disrobing her in an apparent attempt to find drugs they thought the young woman had smuggled into the jail. Williams was taken into custody on Tuesday, May 10. Winchester was located and arrested on Wednesday, May 11.

United Way’s Day of Caring set for May 14, seeking projects PDF Print E-mail

Projects and volunteers are being sought for United Way of Scott County’s 2011 Day of Caring. The service event will be held Saturday, May 14, from 7 a.m. until about 3 p.m. The rain date will be May 21st. Breakfast and lunch at the First Southern Baptist Church on McClain Avenue will be provided for volunteers.
The Day of Caring has been an annual tradition in Scott County since 1998. Possible projects include landscaping, painting, washing windows, installation of ramps, and more.

Authorities take dim view of man’s scheme to bilk would-be game buyers PDF Print E-mail

Law enforcement authorities took a dim view of a Scottsburg man’s alleged success in bilking people of money by offering a game system for sale over the Internet.
Michael Quinn, 19, East Green Street, is accused of having taken $125 from a woman and $60 from a man who sent the money to him in response to his “sale” of a Play Station 3 he advertised on Craigslist, a popular Internet site for selling items.

Special Prosecutor assigned, ISP investigation starts on voter fraud complaint PDF Print E-mail

A special prosecutor has been assigned and an investigation by the Indiana State Police is now being conducted in the wake of a complaint filed Monday, May 2, accusing the mayor of the City of Austin and a city employee of voter fraud.

On today’s date (April 26) in the morning hours, troopers from the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg went to 354 West Cross Street in Austin on an anonymous tip of Marijuana growing near the residence. When troopers arrived they searched the premises and located three growing Marijuana plants in the backyard of the residence.

After talking to the residents of the home troopers arrested Harlen Combs, 29, of 354 West Cross Street in Austin. He was incarcerated in the Scott County Jail on the charges of Possession/Cultivating Marijuana with a Prior Marijuana Conviction, D Felony.
